This is what I absolutely love about Peyton Manning. He had an epic game, yet he refused to acknowledge himself (as usual), but went on and on about his teammates. The guy is just 100% class.

Attempt No. 1: "Is that the best game of your career?"

(As an aside, it's pretty telling that there is an actual debate if a 462-yard, seven-touchdown performance is in fact, the best game of Manning's career. We'll get back to this topic in a bit, after his non-answer.)

Manning: "I don't know. I guess I haven't had a whole lot of time to think about it. Our offensive line did a great job protecting against a tough bunch up front ... "

Attempt No. 2: "Did you think seven touchdowns was possible in a NFL game, considering it has been 44 years?"

At least Manning got to show off his keen sense of NFL history by naming the last person to do it, and also his knowledge of famous Internet videos.

Manning: "Yeah, Joe Kapp, great Canadian quarterback out of Cal. Kicked the crap out of a guy on YouTube a couple years ago."

And then he went into some unrelated answer about the Broncos' defense. But, he was correct about Kapp ...


Attempt No. 3: "You've had many magical days and nights in your career, but do you understand the magnitude of this?"

Manning: "It was a great team win."

In his answers to those three questions, he praised: Denver's offensive line, Wes Welker, Julius Thomas, the defensive players for doing well without Von Miller and Champ Bailey, and the Broncos' crowd. In subsequent answers, he gave credit to running backs Ronnie Hillman, Montee Ball and Knowshon Moreno, and offensive coordinator Adam Gase.

To listen to Manning's version of events, the guy who set the NFL record didn't have anything to do with it.

The intro to the game last night was awful. Ryan Seacrest? Really? And then that super cheesy countdown, wow it was bad. Then the game itself was like 6 hours long.

I think the NFL may start to see a slide in popularity in the not too distant future.

The day Payton Manning left Indy after being a Colt for all those years the last thing he did was visit a little girl who was terminally ill in the hospital and then got on a plane and flew to Denver. There were no television cameras, reporters or any media people. The only reason the public knew about this visit was the parents of the child made it known and showed the message Payton left for the little girl.

By the way, they named the children's wing at St. Vincent's Hospital Payton Manning Children's Hospital. He paid for almost the whole wing. Payton didn't want the wing named after him but finally gave in when the hospital's board of directors insisted. They finally convinced him that having his name on this wing would help them raise more money for the research needed to save lives.

I'm a Colts fan. The story was in the NW Indiana Times (out of Munster). We get a lot of newspaper stories about Riley Children's Hospital and now Payton Manning Children's Hospital both in Indy. I've also made some trips to Indy for high school state championship games.

When Butler and Valpo were both in the Horizon League I made the trip down to Indy probably four times for the annual basketball battle. Valpo is so bad in football that I never went down to Indy for any football games. It's 2.5 hours from Valpo.

I have family in Indy. I go to the Big Ten Fanfest and Football Championship Game there every year, and I've got a ticket for Broncos/Colts in October. Lucas Oil Stadium is beginning to feel like my second home! Love it there!
