You know what? Pujols leaving is, well, I'm already over it. I was over it within a day or two. The price he went for and the way he and Dierdre embarrassed themselves as they went - I felt sadder for them and what they were exposed for more than for the Cardinals. It's almost a relief actually. It's a shame but its the truth.
And after Beltran signed, I mean... Albert who?
All to say, I wouldn't put Albert leaving in my 'worst list'. Really.

If it makes anybody feel better, the Best Sports Moments List is also (obviously) dominated by Cardinal moments, with two Blues moments and I believe one Mizzou moment the only exceptions.

Yeah, you pretty much just summed up why that
was the worst moment in St. Louis sports this year. The best player in baseball for the past decade, a god in St. Louis rivaled only in overall adoration by Musial and the face of baseball left. Then things got...weird. Rationalize it all you want, that was the worst thing that happened this year, imo.

The whole year has been an emotional roller coaster for Cards fans. It should be no surprise they dominate the lists for good and bad moments.
EDIT* btw, on MLB Network, they made a list for top 50 moments in baseball this year. The Cardinals pretty much dominated that list as well. I want to say something like 6 moments from the World Season alone made the list, and they even included Freese's triple and HR as 1 single moment (#1 moment on the list)

#1 was Pujols leaving for me. Even with Beltran, even as understandable as it was for both Pujols and the Cardinals to have behaved the way they did, it still bums me out to think that I'll no longer be able to go watch the best player in baseball, one of the best players in the history of the game, in person.
#2- again, speaking only for myself- was the Painter/Haith roller coaster. I liked CMA a lot, and then for a brief moment, it looked like Mizzou was going to upgrade from a very good coach to an elite one. And then... not only did they NOT upgrade, they got a guy with a total horse [expletive] record and a long history of coaching mediocre-to-bad teams. It really sapped me of a lot of the energy I had for Mizzou hoops. It's gradually coming back, and I'm thrilled that Haith is succeeding. But I'm still a long way from sold.
Those are the very clear #1 and #2 for me. A distant #3 was Pinkel's DUI, mostly because it was disappointing and so out of character for the reputation that Pinkel has built. Having said that, both the university and Pinkel handled it as perfectly as they could have, which helped smooth over a lot of the disappointment. And #4 was losing Wainwright.
After that, I don't really give much of a [expletive].

I'm probably splitting hairs. I'd put Pujols leaving on my 'saddest moment' list but not 'worst'. Because I think the Cardinals have a real shot of being a better team without him and his contract that with him. I was willing to live with that given the incredible 11 years he gave St. Louis. But now that he's gone, I'm excited about the Cardinals in an entirely different way. And that's not bad at all.

Undoubtedly. What a stupid [expletive] list. The bad taste of the worst moment lasted all of about 10 minutes and then a mere 20 minutes later was replaced with possibly the best moment St. Louis sports has seen in, well, maybe ever.
They were by far the worst 10 minutes of the year, though. It's embarrassing to admit this, but I was physically nauseous after Hamilton hit that home run. I had to sit down and miss the rest of the half inning because I was so dizzy.
I think it's a pretty good list, but I would include Bradford's fumble that was returned for a TD by the Eagles. After the Eagles tied the game, the Rams offense drove deep into Eagles territory and were looking like they could go punch for punch with the Superbowl favorites. Then he fumbled. That was the first time I felt it could be a long season for the Rams.

Ha. Yeah, and a lot of people probably felt the same way.
This is an apples and oranges comparison here bc of the circumstances, but I was so much more upset by any walk/hit (hell it seems like even a strike called a ball by the ump) in NLDS game 5 than I was by Hamilton's HR in Game 6. In that game 5, it just seemed the cards were going to have to hang on to a 1 run lead all game long and even if they let the Phils tie it, they would likely lose. In Game 6 of the WS, it felt like they would win...no matter what. I'm probably in the minority, but I was never as worried - even in the bottom of the 9th or top of the 10th - as I was for the entirety of Game 5 NLDS.

Totally opposite feeling. I could not have been more confident with a 1 run lead in Philly, but I was a broken man after Hamilton's HR.
