Between an hour and a half to two hours before kickoff, the Notre Dame football team will complete its traditional pre-game mass in the Sacred Heart Basilica and walk to Notre Dame Stadium. The route is traditionally lined with Irish fans, giving the team some last minute encouragement.

Yeah, I was about to say, it's almost right before the band plays on the steps at Bond Hall, which is a minute away from the basilica.

Yep...not far. It isn't a very large campus, ask anyone and they'll point you in the right direction. Have a great time!

If you were to walk to the front door of the church and take a left, you'd reach where the band plays in about a minute and a half.

What a lousy year for ND Football

OH! So THAT'S what was going on between TV timeouts!! I was wondering what all the commotion on the field was for a few minutes there yesterday.

We had a great time. I don't give a hoot about ND football so it didn't bother me that they lost. I will say that the TV timeouts are just out of hand. I could have left the game after the opening kickoff and got everything I wanted out of the game. The band was awesome, saw them in their pre-game concert. The students section was nuts, and that was neat because we were in Section 36 right next to them. The F16 flyover at the anthem was probably the coolest part of the day.

But college football is overrated if you ask me. The flow of the game is just totally ruined by that evil man with the orange gloves.

Blasphemy...I couldn't live without college football. Heck, my team's 1-9 and I still look forward to their games.

Part of the "problem" I guess is that I'll bet since the last time I've seen any type of football game live that was televised, I've seen at least 100 high school games. I'm so used to a certain pace, and when one team punts I'm ready for the game to begin and not a 5 minute break. And I think it might actually be more breaks than the NFL, yet another example of taking something too far in my opinion.

There was one break not TV related on the field, and a guy in back of me shouted out something like getting the Notre Dame Broadcasting Company to go sell some Chevy's at that moment to save a timeout down the road. We all cracked up.

I discovered something by accident that was very cool that maybe you have done - my seat was in section 36 right above (actually row 47) the tunnel where they come out. On our way up the ramp, we happened to pass by right as both teams were coming through that little hallway area. The band goes down there and plays when ND comes out. So if you haven't do so, go down to that area about 20 minutes before kickoff.

Also, we were at the church at 12:30 and it was already opened to the public. So I'd recommend getting there earlier than that if you want to see them leaving church. We probably would have made it even then, but 1/2 mile before exit 77 there was a fender bender. Took us 40 minutes to go from exit 72 to 77. The backup was just starting at exit 72, and some were exiting there but not being familiar with South Bend I stayed on the interestate.

Thanks for all of the advice BTW. It really was a neat experience before the game, and definitely recommend anyone going to an ND game to get on campus early to experience it.

Interesting thread. I've been an ND fan for most of my 29 years, and my brother and two other friends are making the 6 hour drive to South Bend this coming Friday for the Duke game. This'll be my second game attending and third time in South Bend over the past two years. It should be a good time. And for any haters out there, ND is on its way back. The current freshmen and sophomores combined with the incoming #1 recruiting class is just the beginning of very goof things to come.

The QB looked good Saturday. LOTS of drops, and he was running for his life quite a bit. Have fun at the game, and get there early. Especially the way they are playing, the pre game stuff is probably as good if not better than the actual game.
