Most pitchers who have commented on the subject say it's giving up a base hit (or worse, a home run) on an 0-2 pitch. It's called, no pun intended, the "Cardinal sin" for a pitcher.

I guess I'm the only one for "balk".

This should be a fundamental no no for a major league pitcher IMO. Kinda like not using two hands on a catch, or not hustling out of the batters box. If you're a professional, you should be past this stuff by now.

But it's OK when Andy Pettitte does right? Apparently it is. :eyeroll:

Gets you called a fat [expletive] toad by George Steinbrenner, but I still voted for walking a run in.

George Steinbrenner publicly expressed disgust at his weight, at one point calling him a "fat [expletive] toad" (the middle word rhyming with "fussy" and meaning "filled with pus", rather than being a reference to female genitals) after he failed to cover first base on a ground ball during a spring training game.

A fitting title since Cardinal pitchers seemed to do this way more than any other team. Waste one would ya?

That would be the worst, that or taking option one a step further. Giving up anything to the number eight hitter with a base open and the pitcher on deck.
