Keisler gets start on Tuesday

I told all of you before Spring Training that this team only goes as far as Randy Keisler takes us.

it wouldnt be a bad thing to put Carp on the DL, cause if not mistaken they can put him on and retroact it a little if needed...

of course they are talking on the game that you might see Schumacker get sent down as well since he isnt hitting and his defense is shaky, and it looks like Taguchi will keep his backup spot just cause he has had a few hits

Carp can indeed be retro-DL'd to April 2, which would bring him off on April 17 - just in time to make a start at home against the Pirates. With the off-day, we only need Keisler tomorrow - the other four guys will have five or four days rest between now and 4/17, when we'd need Carpenter or someone else to start.

My guess is they saw Keisler as a better short-term solution, but see Hawksworth as better in the long-run - meaning if Carp is on the DL for an extended period of time, look for Hawksworth to get the call for the 4/17 game and beyond (unless Keisler does a fantastic job tomorrow, of course).

Why not Franklin or Thompson?

Franklin has pitched very well in the 8th inning so far. He was signed because he was told he had a chance at starting.

Thompson has major league experience and pitched well in ST.

I guess it's alright bringing up a mediocre LHP to throw a spot start, he might take advantage of it and throw pretty well.

But I agree, if Carp is out for a long time, I'd rather use Hawksworth.
