Probably not, but assuming that even if the Cards "waited out the clock" until February Belliard would have never signed a minor league deal with the Cards. Honestly, given that he was the starting 2B for that team winning it all, only offering him a minor league deal would have been insulting (I think he would have signed with someone else out of spite). It would have taken at least $1.5 to $2 to get him back at that point.

The Kennedy contract was a good contract in the present market place.

I think to say that he would get $10 million a year is absurd.

Lugo isn't a whole lot better than Kennedy (at least hitting-wise), but he is capable of playing shortstop AND centerfield; plus, he's the classic mold of a player that team's typically overpay for: he's very athletic and "toolsy."

No there's not. Except for Belliard is so much cheaper now. Who could have possibly guessed that before ST?
The Kennedy deal might be the best deal in all of baseball this year.
I don't see how, unless he plays way above his career averages. It can't be the best deal when Belliard signed for 500K, and Belly would have put up better offensive numbers.

Not that I don't like Kennedy, but Belliard is simply a better offensive player.

$10 mil/year for Kennedy?

In a word: no.
