Yep, just a couple years younger than Miles. Still, it'll be good to have him playing regularly at Memphis and ready for a callup if anyone gets hurt.

I guess my thinking is this:

He's probably not going to improve defensively. Whether or not he does seems irrelevant if he can maintain his offensive numbers. As a backup player his defense wouldn't be that costly. He's played in the minors, moving steadily upward for 6 years. Anything defensively he might have learned from playing would have been accomplished by now. Perhaps the big league coaches like Oquendo can help him out. If not, no big deal.

The fact that he's 29 isn't ideal, but all the more reason to use him while he can be used. He seems to have done everything he can to advance himself. I'd imagine he's run up against coaches and managers too hung up on his defense to push him any further along.

Bottom line is - the current backup is Aaron freaking Miles (he of the .670 OPS and 17 errors in 2006), so why not give him a shot?
