I'm not saying that Looper isn't doing well or anything, and I think he'd probably be alright as a #5 starter. But why isn't Franklin getting a chance?

Why not keep the guy who has made a career out of relieving (Looper) in the bullpen, and let the guy who signed to be a starter (Franklin) get a chance at starting?
Short answer: He's awful.

Yup. I'm not a fan. I don't see anything about him that I like.

See my sig. Thrill sums him up nicely.

I'm actually becoming convinced that Looper might be alright, at least better than Franklin.

I would say that a big reason, also, is that Looper is signed to a terrible contract that becomes more palatable, and makes future moves easier if he can somehow stick in the back of the rotation. The idea of a trade still hasn't left my mind, but once again, the only way that's going to happen is if Fruit Loops proves effective as a starter.

I've come around enough to the idea of Looper getting the first crack at the fifth spot actually. Not because of his performance this spring either, although it's been nice to see that he hasn't failed miserably yet.

BTW, the Richie Allen quote was "If a horse can't eat it, I'm not playing on it." Considering that nowadays Astroturf is blamed for everything up to and including the national deficit, maybe Allen was ahead of the times. ;)
Somebody here had to know that...One of my favorite quotes..I enjoyed his short time in St. Louis..
