i would think there is a prodigy out there somewhere in this land considering the number of soccer nutty kids are playing the game year round these days

everywhere i turn, there are kids kicking a ball instead of throwing or hitting or tackling it

That's correct but he isn't that guy. He'd start up top with Altidore for sure, but on balance, Dempsey and Donovan are better than he is.

Dan, I posted a link to a article about a Dutch soccer academy in the other World Cup 2010 thread that you might find interesting. Primarily discusses a particular Dutch model but touches on some of the differences between US soccer and the rest of the world. I thought it was an interesting read, but I'm a soccer parent, too. You might take a gander though.

He's playing in Greece professionally, but he's not near good enough to make this team. Besides the fact that everyone thinks he was 17 or 18 when he was presented as 13, he's just not very good. Great on the ball, but doesn't seem to have the heart.

I like Altidore a lot.

Really our best player is our keeper, Howard, but because he isn't up top or in the middle of the field...he doesn't get the respect that the superstars do. But he's one of the top keepers in the world.

Yeah well no I'm not going to read that because there are too many words. Simplify. Or is this another one of these overly thought out and complicated deals from the Europeans? I swear to god those people just do [expletive] to do it, the hotel I stay at in Switzerland gives you these mints in your room and I'll be god damned if I have yet to figure out how to open the [expletive] things. I think the idea is that one and only one mint will come out, but [expletive] if I know how it works. I just take the whole lid off and pour them in my mouth by the dozen.

Light switches, door handles, elevators, vending machines ... god only knows how many Swiss Francs I lost in the vending machine where I work because it wasn't until my second visit that I realized you had to hit a button to get change. Missed my god damn bus stop because of that same crazy ass principal as well ... if you are going to stop the autobus then Ouvrez la god damn porte. You have to press a button to open the door, and yelling "Madame, Arretez s'il vous plait" goes in one ear and out the next.

Giusseppi Rossi isn't near Messi or were Ronaldinho was, but he'd be the flashiest star on the US team had he used his brain when picking sides.
For whatever reason Italy's manager left all their best skill players(except Pirlo) off the team. No Rossi, Del Piero, or Totti.
