You can probably start with that friggin Baldomir.

He looked like he would be perfectly content standing in the middle of the ring throwing bombs with any other fighter all day.

You might be on to something. I think Gatti could have hit Baldomir with an anvil and not stopped him from coming forward. I've seen pretty much every Gatti fight of his entire career (bought his career DVD) and non of his opponents took a punch like Baldomir. Looking back on the Mayweather and Baldomir fights, I just don't think Gatti has taken to McGirt's training all that well. He seems to go back and forth between boxing and slugging and, as anyone knows who has followed Gatti, dodging punches is not his best attribute.

Baldomir has never been regarded as a "puncher". Out of his 50-something fights, that was only his 13th KO. He just kept coming forward against Gatti, landing basically at will since Gatti's punches seemed to not effect Carlos at all, although Gatti hurting his hand again surely didn't help. The fight came down to Gatti being overmatched at a higher weight, not Baldomir's overwhelming punching power.

SuttersBeard, if you're looking for another "blood and guts warrior" you'd probably like guys like Manny Pacquiao (130) and Miguel Cotto (147). Cotto had a fight against Ricardo Torres last year reminiscent of a Gatti fight. Torres hurt Cotto badly early and knocked him down in the second round. Cotto came back and knocked the guy out cold in the middle rounds. Cotto currently holds a belt at 140lbs, but is expected to move up to 147 in his next fight. It would have likely been Gatti had he won, but now who knows.

Yeah, that's what I said earlier, too.

I didn't mean he would knock you out instantly. I meant he would stand there and trade with ya.

Eventually, he'd win, because he ain't getting hurt.

We are one in the same bro. The Cotto-Torres fight is one of my all time favorites. Torres is finally fighting again on 8/26 and I'm hoping someone televises it (I doubt it though). Colubian fighters (like Torres, Urango, etc) are always a pretty good bet to be sluggers.

I anointed Cotto as my Gatti back up some time ago. I actually got the Cotto-Malignaggi PPV a few weeks back and his fight was probably the lamest of all of them. I think Cotto hurt his hand in the early going (another similarity to Gatti) Malignaggi showed me a little bit more than I thought he had by fighting 7 rounds with a broken face. Tommy Z, Bobby Pacquiao, John Duddy, etc were also on the card. Worth the $40!

I was never a big fan of McGirt, and could never figure out why he was highly regarded among other trainers. I obviously do not see what goes on in camp, but in the ring he does nothing. In recent fights involving Gatti and Tarver it was obvious his fighter needed to make an adjustment, but Buddy offered absolutely no advice in the corner between rounds. Even his young phenom Joel Julio got his butt kicked earlier this year. He may be a great trainer in the gym, but not in the corner.

That fight against Henry Bruseles will be a PPV on DirecTV, don't know the price though. I don't know much about Bruseles either, other than Cotto's uncle is his manager. And Mayweather gave him a beatdown last year.

I forgot about Julio. He's another knockout machine from Columbia. I was thouroughly unimpressed with him in his last fight. Buddy is in a big slump. I think that his pimp glasses might be bad luck.

Yeah, Julio was definetly disappointing.
I think McGirt;s little brother, or cousin, is his new up and comer.
I would think Gatti is done.

I agree. I think Mayweather will destroy Baldomir if they get together.

I am a huge Cotto fan also. I think he broke his hand in that last fight. There was talk that if Gatti beat Baldomir then it would give Cotto enough time to heal and he would face Gatti for the Welterweight crown in December. But now its a wash. Cotto is moving up from junior welterweight and I'm real intrested to see who he fights next. He might get Baldomir if Mayweather takes on Sugar Shane... Gotta love this division. Ricky Hatton is also in the mix.
