My grandmother in Poplar Bluff has received the Obama attack mailers, but I'm not getting them in a more rural community nearby. I did, on the other hand, just have to print up a Snopes article to disprove a flier being passed around locally by McCain supporters, that claims Obama thinks the National Anthem should be replaced with something less bellicose like I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing. I'm not sure whether I'm more amused or saddened that this needs to be disproved...

I got that exact thing in an email this morning. From a guy at my church who was "appalled and speechless" and urged the email to be passed on so that all may see. (this would be a perfect place for using the rolling eye emoticon).

Perhaps, there are SOME out there who are beginning to get 'the picture'. The following is a narrative taken from Sunday Morning's televised 'Meet The Press' and the author is employed by none other than the Washington Post!! Yeah......the Washington Post of New York and Los Angeles Times fame!! Must say that I'm dually impressed..................

The General also stated to the Senator that according to the United States Code,

Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171...
During rendition of the National Anthem, when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform are expected to stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. At the very least, 'Stand and Face It'

Senator Obama Live on Sunday states, 'As I've said about the flag pin, I don't want to be perceived as taking sides, Obama said. 'There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression. And the Anthem itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all. It should be swapped for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like the song 'I'd Like To Teach the World To Sing.' If that were our Anthem, then I might salute it.' We should consider to reinvent our National Anthem as well as to redesign our Flag to better offer our enemies hope and love. It's my intention, if elected, to disarm America to the level of acceptance to our Middle East Brethren. If we as a Nation of warring people, should conduct ourselves as the nations of Islam, whereas peace prevails. Perhaps a state or period of mutual concord between our governments. When I become President, I will seek a pact or agreement to end hostilities between those who have been at war or in a state of enmity, and a freedom from disquieting oppressive thoughts. We as a Nation have placed upon the nations of Islam an unfair injustice.

My wife disrespects the Flag for many personal reasons. Together she and I have attended several flag burning ceremonies in the past, many years ago. She has her views and I have mine'. Of course now, I have found myself about to become the President of the United States and I have put aside my hatred. I will use my power to bring CHANGE to this Nation, and offer the people a new path of hope. My wife and I look forward to becoming our Country's First Family. Indeed, CHANGE is about to overwhelm the United States of America.

The "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing" thing was a parody that got picked up and forwarded by idiots who thought it was real. I got that email from a friend of mine who is a Republican. In February, when I told him I had gone to the Democratic caucuses he started sending me anti-Obama emails, all of which were stupid things like the above. I finally found a way to junk them without removing him from my address book: all of the emails were forwarded, and had "Fwd" or "Fw" in the subject line, so I set my spam filter to junk all emails with those two things in the subject line. Since then I haven't had to look at any anti-Obama emails from him, while still getting emails from him about other stuff.

My dad gets these from his cousin every single day and listens to talk radio every.. single.. night. He is absolutely convinced this Berg lawsuit is going to explode and incriminate Obama by proving he isn't a citizen of the United States, that the birth certificate is false.

I love how someone can ask a presidential candidate a question on the campaign trail and have themselves dragged through the mud by the media. The scrutiny of Joe is beyond the ridiculous level.

I think people are just annoyed by his self-promotion and obvious grabbing of his 15 minutes of fame.

I will freely admit that I don't like it that news outlets immediately investigate these instant celebrities within minutes. I'm sure he's just an average Joe. It's the Republicans who made him a huge story, when there's not all that much particularly interesting about his situation.

The scrutiny took place immediately...digging into his past, looking for ways to put him down. And it wasn't just the news outlets.

Did the Republicans make him a huge story? Yeah, I guess. But it was because of the answer that Obama gave that set them off. "Spread the wealth". That's what started it all. And now, the best way to get people to ignore that is to paint Joe in a bad light.

That is simply, unequivocally, undeniably, emphatically untrue. Obama spoke to Joe the Plumber on Sunday, October 12. Every dateline of every story about Joe the Plumber starts the evening of the debate, Oct. 15 because McCain mentioned him 20+ times. McCain first brought him up to the country. The stories that delve into Joe's history - lack of a license, owes taxes, etc. - the ones that you find disgusting, are usually dated at the earliest October 16. October 16. Which is four days after Obama talked to him, one day after McCain dragged him out for all of America to endure. Of course that didn't stop McCain from complaining a day or two later that the Obama campaign had ruined this poor guy's life. Which is probably the 'report' that you are basing this mistaken opinion on, I can only guess.

Provide a credible news source that has a dateline before October 15 that 'smears' Joe the Plumber and I will apologize profusely.

At least four background checks on Joe by Ohio state employees on state of Ohio computers in the databases searching for information about Joe. The woman who heads up the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services acknowledged the checks...more than was initially reported. The woman is a supporter of Obama (donating the maximum she could to him). I'm not saying she did this or authorized this with political motivations, but it does seem odd to me that she openly supports Obama, wasn't truthful at first, had those in her office (if not her) check into child support payments or welfare payments or unemployment compensation.

It could all be legit checks, but excuse me if I have my doubts.

Obama's answer is what bothered me and most people on the right. I don't care if someone that asked it was a child molester, doesn't have a plumbing license (heaven forbid!!!!) or is as clean as a whistle. That person, while clearly not ready for office, isn't the one that answered (who also is clearly not ready for office).

Your original post about this, the first in all these quotes, said that the media dragged Joe through the mud because he asked a presidential candidate a question. You said the scrutiny took place immediately. Those remarks are simply not true. The media camped out on his lawn because McCain gave him his Warhol moment at the debate. He would've remained merely a YouTube moment if McCain hadn't made him the centerpiece of his campaign. You're implying that it was Obama's campaign that invited all this scrutiny to Joe, yet McCain started it.

You're forgetting the biggest point of his argument.

McCain is supporting him, so he's a good guy who is being dragged through the mud by the leftist media. It is impossible for it to be any other way, because that's what the GOP says.

Well, it's responses like this that ultimately lead to political threads getting locked and banned at many sites. Why can't we just discuss the topics without getting so heated and disrespectful that people's feelings end up getting hurt? You're not the only McCain supporter on here so it's not like everyone is ganging up on you, as you seem to believe. But there are individuals on here that are just as enthusiastic about their beliefs as you are about yours, although they differ greatly from you. So what? State your opinion and have a discussion or move on. Hell, I took on the whole forum arguing that Yadier was a better hitter than they were accusing and swore that he'd hit .300 some day and was made to feel foolish for thinking so but so what? Why don't we all lighten up and have some consideration for other's opinions and stop worrying so much about who's picking on who?

I'm working with a guy right now that has 6 unsigned contracts on his desk. If McCain wins, they'll all be signed. If Obama wins, either 1 or none of them will be. The developer is unwilling to develop anything b/c he's not willing to risk his money and face the possibility of the cg tax increase and/or the associated income tax increase. I would say that's pretty stupid, but, then again, it's his money.

I asked the guy what the developer was going to do for the next 8 years, and the guy said not a thing. Apparently, the developer is perfectly willing to sit on his ass and not make any money and not pay higher taxes for the next however long and just live on his savings. Must be nice, but hopefully they're not all like that b/c that would scare the hell out of me.

There are any number of stupid things that people can do if Obama or McCain wins. I don't think what a few idiots might do if one candidate or the other wins should sway how we vote.
