On this note, I'm sure you've seen the large Obama mural painted on the side of The Royale on Kingshighway. I appreciate their support and all, and I know they're "official" Obama posters, but the way it's on there looks like communist propaganda posters.

Bush won the Hispanic vote 56-44 in Florida. If Obama loses that category by just 7 points, he wins Florida. And Obama is winning the senior vote somehow by 2, but it could be due to the small sample size(132).

We saw a lot of this in 2004 - shows you how long this endeavor in Iraq has gone on when they can use the troops as propaganda two elections in a row.

to do a job well, it sure helps to believe in it. Lots of dead soldiers throughout history were true believers in their cause too.

I do have compassion for Iraqis, and the US soldiers that after 5+ years can't help but have a vested interest. but if this is a noble humanitarian cause as suggested in the clip, then that is a liberal sort idea. as socnorb said, who else we going to free and save? why only help those sitting on oil?

The "kill them all" strategy didn't work. Paying off the Al-Sadr and putting the mullahs on the US payroll, as well as 150,000 US troops has brought a band-aid sort of peace to the nation. I don't know if that is called victory. but if it gets US out of there, then claim victory and bring the troops home.

I have to be a pessimist, but a realist. Iraq was a mess before we came, is a mess now, and will be a mess when we leave.

Socnorb, I'd be awfully surprised if this video was in any way an attempt to actually change people's minds about the war. It's designed to whip up a little enthusiasm among the war's supporters in a non-controversial manner, nothing more. You're free to ask questions of the people emailing it around right now, but I have a hard time believing you're going to get a sensible answer out of anyone who thinks having lost a limb in combat makes one an expert on foreign policy and middle eastern politics.

FWIW, I recently talked to a Marine who had just finished a tour of duty in Iraq. It was his opinion that a ton of progress had been made in the last year or so. Control has been completely turned over to Iraqis in the Anbar province and the rest of the country is soon to follow. Over the next year or two you will see a lot of the troops leave Iraq with a much smaller force remaining in place for the next 3-5 years just to make sure a civil war doesn't happen. But he felt that Afghanistan was a much bigger threat at this point and you will see most of the troops shifted there or sent home.

Not once did I hear a legitimate reason why the war in Iraq was waged. Not a single one. All I heard is that "Giving people freedom isn't a mistake."

Soldiers were sent to war under false pretenses. Nobody is disrespecting the service of soldiers by saying the president who sent them to die made an irresponsible decision.

So basically, we beat Iraq into submission, they stopped fighting. Doesn't that mean they lost their freedom? Or did they gain freedom by us killing them? Sigh.
