it would be more offensive if I hadn't already read chain emails from republican friends and family who believe that picture is what will actually happen.

There's stuff like this that keeps appearing on the bulletin board at work. I'm pretty sure it's the owners wife, who has some just downright offensive opinions. I keep throwing it in the trash, and more keeps showing up. It's a fun game.

Back in '04 when I lived in Ohio, somebody put a same-sex marriage ban ammendment support flier thingy on the bulletin board at my company. I was so pissed that I walked around to every coffee bar in the building I could find (about 40 of them), took every single one of them down, and turned them in to my HR rep. Keep your politics and your business seperate.

Not that my work that day made any difference. The ammendment passed overwhelmingly (65-35 or something).

For those who haven't seen it, it's Barack dressed as a Muslim jabbing fists with Michelle, who is dressed as a soldier. The American flag is burning and there's a picture of Osama bin Laden above the fireplace.

I read it as satire.
I read it as satire, too; but horrible execution and epic fail.

I wrote 'em and told 'em so, too.
Yep. It's one of those cases where you just say "Yeah, I get the joke, but I'm still not laughing".

This kind of political satire is tough to pull off, and the NY'er should have known better than to try.

I think it may have been worth a try inside the magazine.

Too pull it off on the cover was a bold misfire.

Not surprisingly, the Obama campaign is not amused.

Magazine's 'satirical' cover stirs controversy

Yeah, I feel the same "I get it, but it's not funny."

The terrorist fist jab is what led me to believe they were joking.
