What is sounds like, put some coins in a coffee can and rattle it around whenever your dog barks. Dogs' hearing is very sensitive, they hate that.

My dog pretty much never barks when I'm home. I recently found out she was barking when I was out when the neighbors told me about it. I'm working on a couple strategies, but it's not so easy to control behavior that only occurs when you're not home.

We've been dog owners for the last 3 years, and along with that came the responsibility to pick up after them and not them bark uncontrollably. People who aren't willing or able to take on these responsibilities shouldn't own dogs, IMHO.

That said, I see an awful lot of unpicked up dog crap when I take my guys out for a walk (despite the fact that the neighborhood trails have ample supplies of pickup bags).

I had the law called on me one night because of my cat. I was single, living in an upstairs apartment with a 5 month old cat. Had been out all evening, got home about midnight and shortly thereafter had a knock on the door. Big dude standing there told me my downstairs neighbors had complained of noises coming from my apartment all night long. I had had just enough to drink that evening to be a little bit on the hateful side and I explained to him that I had just then walked in the door, been gone all night, so he'd better find out where the hell he was supposed to be because it wasn't my apartment.

The cop left, I went into the other room and started hearing "bowling" sounds from the kitchen. The cat had knocked a square shaped salt shaker off the table and had apparently been rolling it around the floor all evening.

I went downstairs the following morning, met my neighbors, apologized and we all proceeded to get drunk together.
