I tend to agree, that some stats fly right over my head. More likely than not, it's because I haven't taken the time to fully understand their value. I think it would be in the best interest of the board to educate us non-sabrs on some of the basic stats most frequently discussed. How they are calculated, what they can predict, how they show trends, etc. I'll admit I get a little hot headed about it, and that's usually what happens when I don't understand something. I've been recently trying more and more to "learn" some of this stuff, and DO find it very interesting. So maybe a "super" thread/sticky on the sabr basics might help. I know it's not anyones responsibility to do so, but it's just a suggestion.

Stats are fine to a point, but I don't really care to read a five paragraph post on them. That is just me. I know others would like nothing more than to read paragraph after paragraph of analysis.

Not knowing what they mean or how they are arrived at doesn't hinder my enjoyment of the game. I don't mind remaining ignorant of some things.

Agree 100%! Reading a whole paragraph on those stats just seem like to much.

I don't think that the stat threads should be eliminated, by any means. I just feel like that that's all that's allowed in Baseball Talk anymore.

Other than that, I think the forum is fine. I love it.

What counts as a stat thread? Baseball is full of stats, so at what point does a thread cross the "stat thread" threshold?

If people don't like threads that involve what they perceive to be advanced stats, start a thread. A look at baseball talk right this very minute will show plenty of threads that are not stat-heavy. If it is properly titled and designed to stimulate discussion about the game of baseball it will not get moved.

I offered a suggestion. Hopefully it's considered. I joined here for the sole purpose to discuss Cardinal baseball. The other forums on this board I frequent, is quite frankly due to the fact that this is the only message board I post. Does anyone agree with me? Would anyone like to see a thread dedicated to learning about advanced stats?

Exactly. Something for "beginners" to reference. I think it would expand discussions even further.
