The pirates are starting to develop some really talented young pitching. If they could ever get all of the pieces together all at once(starting, relief, offense, intangibles), and had a GM that cared about the team, they could go on a little run, honestly. If one read the "Unnamed Scout" thread that Picasso posted yesterday, the one scout raves about Ian Snell and I don't disagree with him.

I place them above the Reds this season. That's something, at least they won't be last.

Jake, I was fearing you liked the Cubs more than the Cards. You need to give equal opportunity to your NL Central foes.

Ian Snell is going to be a very good major league pitcher. The potential is there for him to be a #1 Starter on many teams. Emphasis on the word Potential.

So is Zach Duke. Duke fell behind Snell last year, though.

One name to watch out for: Sean Burnett. He'll start the year in AAA, I think. But, I don't think he'll be there for long.

Oh, Gorzelany & Maholom don't suck. Maholom won't be a #1, but he'll be more than serviceable. Gorz has a high ceiling, but not enough experience.

We weren't last last year. We'll be a lot better this year.
Also, look at the post all-star records of the division last year.

I can't wait to read the Hope and Faith article on the Pirates coming up in BP. The series looks at each team and discusses what they need to do to win the world series.

I will say the Pirates have a better shot that the Royals or DRays.

I still hate the Pirates from 2003.... loaded up the Cubs for next to nothing in return to give them the division.

I really questioned their move during the offseason to get LaRoche for Mike Gonzalez. The Pirates best hitting prospect (and hitting like a beast in Spring Training) is Brad Eldred. With LaRoche coming over they have effectively blocked their best and most major league ready prospect for a while. Mike Gonzalez could have been used later on the in the season as trade bait to a contender looking for setup man, or closer (as you know the Red Sox, Yanks, Cubs) will be looking for.

Imagine Aramis still with us.

Duffy, Sanchez, Aramis, LaRoche, Bay, Paulino, who cares!

Duffy is still a great unknown, but the four after him? Paulino only hit .310 last year. I don't care if they were all singles.
