Matt Damon’s Biceps in That ‘Odyssey’ Fight Scene? They’re Hers.

Devyn Dalton, a 4-foot-6 woman, is the leading man’s stunt double in Christopher Nolan’s summer blockbuster.

Last week, the actor Devyn Dalton received, quite possibly, the world’s biggest compliment. She was in New Zealand filming her next project, when she was awakened at 4 a.m. by the buzz of her phone. “I was like, ‘What is going on?’ It just blew up — my phone was going crazy,” Dalton, 34, said.

What was going on was that the actor Matt Damon, who plays Odysseus in Christopher Nolan’s interpretation of Homer’s epic tale, had said in an interview that she had “the greatest arms I have ever seen.” Her friends were sending her clips of the interview as it was ripping through the internet.

Damon had been discussing one of the film’s pivotal scenes when he gently corrected his interlocutor, who had mistakenly assumed the biceps in the shot were his own: They belonged to Dalton, who some might be surprised to learn is his stunt double. She’s a woman standing in for a male actor, for starters; she’s also 4-foot-6 to Damon’s roughly 5-foot-10 frame. It’s a bit of movie magic, Damon explained. To film the battle against the man-eating Laestrygonians, Nolan used a technique called “forced perspective” to make Odysseus’ army appear minuscule.

I just read "Project Hail Mary" and it was really good. I'm now cautiously looking forward to the movie, in the hopes that it doesn't disappoint.

I just finished the audio book. Haven't seen the movie yet. LOVED the book.

The movie is available on Amazon Prime, and it's free for subscribers. I semi-skimmed through it last night to see how close they stayed to the book, and I was very happy. Yes, it's a low bar in Hollywood to stick to the book, but they seemed to a pretty good job. I recommend.

Finally watched it recently. I thought they did a pretty good job. If I hadn't read the book first, I probably would have loved it. BUT... the true depth of the friendship between Rocky and Grace is not conveyed. I fault the movie format more than the writers or actors. They just had to cut too much of the little details that make the book so rich and moving. I just adored the book though, so it was going to be really hard for the movie to live up, honestly.

I liked the movie, but there’s a lot to unpack in it.
