And Hoerner, who already had 3 hits, jacks a 2 run homer to stick us with at least a 4 run deficit to the bottom of the 9th. Maybe pitch around him to get to a weaker hitter. Really genius.

We're at the 'welp, we had a good run" stage of the season.

Most teams that are built to win go through down cycles due to injury or fatigue or just dumb luck during a season. But they're built with redundancies to withstand those inevitabilities.

This team wasn't built to win. It's nice that they've been above .500 for most of the season, but we knew based on their outlier performance in one run games and extra innings, the lack of any free agent spending to build a bullpen or bench, all coupled with a nearly neutral run differential, that we were on borrowed time.
