I’m probably reading too much into the posturing and vibes, but it’s my impression the owners are ready to go all the way.
Seems that way. They're not content merely with buying teams at a billion dollars and selling them at 2-3 billion. They want more revenue too. are they willing to kill the growth of the sport to get it? Probably. These are greedy morons, the failsons of the captains of industry.
It's a clever negotiating gambit though, gotta hand it to them. The players' union represents current players, not future ones, and its leadership and strategy is dominated by veterans. Would the MLBPA be willing to cave on some measures that [expletive] over current amateurs and college players -- who btw are also the future competitors for the veterans' current jobs -- in order to get some other concession for current vets on the salary cap or arbitration rules? I can see it shaking out that way.
The net result would no doubt save owners tens or hundreds of millions in bonus dollars and minor league system costs per year. The first offer from ownership is the aggressive one, but they'd settle for something less.

While I'm not in favor of this, I also don't think it's the worst idea in the world if the trade off is more investment in wages + standards for MiLB. Which likely won't happen.

The concessions made to shortening the draft during the 2022 CBA negotiations led to improved living and working conditions for MiLB.
I don't think there's going to be much good coming from these negotiations aside from the potential distribution of RSN related revenue.

I think it's a weird dynamic though that folks like me and you (regular middle income folks) are up in arms because billionaires are squeezing millionaires.
I know I catch hell, and people think I'm joking, but literally none of us fight for lower ticket or concession prices. WE are being bilked by the billionaires. The millionaires don't care about us, but we sure go to battle for them.

Lol the new owner proposal is capping free agent contracts for players changing teams to 5 years (6 years for players staying with their team).
Goodbye 2027 season. There's no world in which this [expletive] is acceptable. Players and owners get to negotiate contracts -- whomever wants the player, makes the offer that the market dictates. Nobody needs to save these [expletive] owners from their own contracts. They're grownups.
Also, let's legislate away the MLB antitrust exemption. It's time.
