I'd assume it'd be 2028 at the earliest, and that's assuming the offense stays on track.

My concern has been more that they were planning to try and be the Rays or the Brewers going forward.

If the payroll was going up any time soon, they’d be signing extensions.
Outside of JJ is there anyone that we need to be jumping in an signing extensions for? I would imagine there will be a fairly big disconnect between where Winn thinks he is worth and what his actual performance on the field has been. 3.5 WAR but negative offensive production leads to a potentially risky profile to extend long term. Typically want to lock down the middle of the lineup and not the 7th place hitter.

The Cardinals’ payroll is $75 million below the proposed salary floor.

I’d sign Burleson to an extension. Same with Donovan if they still had him. Winn obviously. Walker. Wetherholt. Herrera. It’s ok to pay pretty good players their market value. The Cardinals aren’t a Dollar Store just because they act like one.
