How have we never developed metric time? There are 86,400 seconds in a day. 100 seconds per minute, 32 minutes per hour, 24 hours in a day.

No. We need a metric minute. Get rid of hours and you just have 864 metric minutes per day.

1 day = 1 metric day = 10 metric hours (decidays) = 100 metric minutes (centidays) = 1000 metric seconds (milidays). The world can convert seconds into metric (hours, minutes, seconds) every time they want to report on time related events. Easy

We can't really change the second though at this point. It is too engrained into the metric system as the basic unit of time.

Wouldn't it be 10 hours of 100 minutes of 100 seconds? That's 100,000 seconds in a day vs the current 86,400.

Which means 1 metric second == .684 seconds.

Bills and ideas to remedy the situation have been repeatedly pitched and stalled over the century that daylight saving time has been in practice in the United States.

The latest attempt comes from Rep. Greg Steube, R-Florida, in the form of The Daylight Act of 2026. Introduced to Congress earlier this month, the bill proposes doing away with daylight saving as we know it and splitting the difference. Instead of a twice-yearly change of one hour each time, it would shift U.S. time zones forward 30 minutes from the current standard time and leave them there permanently.
