Such a plaque shouldn't be seen as controversial. There's been a historical marker in downtown Louisville for decades marking the site of the Arterburn slave pens, near 1st and Market. It's a simple marker, but it does remind people that Louisville was a large slave market in the 19th century with ties to other communities on the Ohio River, and then all the way down to the Mississippi River valley and New Orleans. The marker is also part of a group of historical markers explaining Black presence and social activity (such as creation of churches, schools, and businesses) in the city in the 19th century. The author was Blaine Hudson, one of the foremost scholars of the Underground Railroad, which also was active in Louisville and Southern Indiana in this region.

That's a good story, and good on those students and their teacher for bringing history to life for more people.

One funny part of the article though:

I wouldn't exactly say Curt Flood championed the reserve clause.
