I know this TV deal and $$ has been an issue the Cards ownership has been pointing to for why spending is down, but ownership will end up costing them money because as they have reduced their investment in the payroll the dropping attendance and TV numbers is going to reduce any new money they end up getting from MLB or any other TV group that takes their games. So the spiral of disinvestment will continue.

It boggles my mind that they gutted the minor league staff and development teams, and just let the development and scouting rot.
This would be great schadenfreude except that I love Cardinals. It’s like watching a family member slowly succumb to addiction and the only thing left to do is pull the plug on the relationship.

The Cardinals ownership killed the most valuable part of their franchise - the trust and loyalty they had with their fanbase. To me it feels worse than the lowest days of the A-B ownership in the mid-90’s. Without that loyalty, the team is just another smaller market franchise that may not pull large revenue even in better seasons.

At best, they are the Cleveland Guardians or Cinci Reds now. That’s ok I guess, but they certainly cannot be valued as one of the premier MLB franchises any longer. It wouldn’t have taken much investment from the owners to prevent this. They’ve destroyed probably $0.5-1B of market valuation of the franchise.
