I want to sell my jeep and get a new vehicle in the next few months.

Here are my priorities:
-durable interior (dog gets to come with me on a lot of adventures and he likes to get dirty)
-cruising comfort (good mix of highway and surface driving)
-under $45-50k
-some off road capability (doesn’t have to be a beast, but occasionally find myself on dirt tracks and sand when camping)

Any recs?
Another Jeep?

Not sure if you want to avoid trucks, but I really like the new GMC Canyon (or it's Chevy Colorado sibling). I was close to pulling the trigger on one a couple months ago, but then I had some issues with my current truck, yadda yadda yadda, somehow I ended up keeping my truck and buying a Jeep. Anyway, the Canyons have pretty nice interiors, decent highway cruisers, and pretty capable off-road particularly if you go AT4. Just avoid the 2023 model year when they first came out, because they had some electronics/computer issues that can brick them.

Or if you want to rip up the script and go old school, I have a soft spot for late 90's Cherokee XJ's. If you can find one that isn't modified all to hell, with the 4.0L they are pretty bulletproof. Biggest gripe about them is the spare tire takes up a lot of your cargo space in back. Put the savings towards a really nice set of seat covers. Sure, not a new car, but don't all the cool guys in movies drive somewhat offbeat older cars?

Those late 90’s early 2000’s XJ’s are highly sought after at the moment. If you can find one that’s not modified and lifted (which there are plenty), but also not having 100k miles plus, you’ll pay a hefty premium, as in for a nice example you’re probably going to pay close to 15-20k for a 25 year old car. They can be had for cheaper (especially when pushing 150k miles), but that really doesn’t sound like what you were looking for.

Anything cool always comes at a price.

Being honest though, anything that is 1.) reliable + 2.) capable and/or practical + 3.) remotely stylish is going to run $15k+. That's just the value of vehicles these days. Maybe you can find a relative bargain between $10k-15k. Anything below $10k, something is going to give.

You guys are right. More than ever you have to pay to play in the car world. If you go back 20 years there were plenty of fun car bargains out there, but those are long gone.

This should go into the rants forum, but I'm currently going through selling some vehicles and would like to rant about how much I loathe trying to sell a vehicle online. Non-stop fighting through scammers and low-ballers.

Agreed, I was just setting an expectation. Most people think that looking at a 25 year old car with 100k miles is going to cost them 5k or so.

Thank God it's not. I'd have a driveway that looked like MTV cribs except it would be full of old 20 year old German and JDM cars that don't run. My neighbors would hate me.

Lol!!

Most point was most people don’t think of a 25 year old Jeep Cherokee as some sort of vehicle that would appreciate, but that’s kind of where we’re at.

Of course thrill sounds like he just wants it to drive it and beat on it a bit so that’s not his goal.

That is sorta how my driveway is looking (except that they all run), hence my rant about needing to sell some vehicles.

thrill, I think what you really need to get is a 2008 Saab 9-3 convertible. I know where you can find a haggle-free deal on one. Or maybe a motorcycle is more your speed, and you are interested in a 2014 Royal Enfield?
