What are today’s good network-ish (if kids are about) body of the week shows like Monk or Bones or Perry Mason (non fat guy running down the street full frontally nude-version)?
These are good shows to have around. Keep me from watching 30 Rock yet again almost joylessly at this point. But also doesn’t require signing on for some three year arc.
Weird modern world. Very few adult programs to watch with kids around. Meanwhile many kids shows with jokes and parodies no one under 30 could grasp. I think someone could and should make a hilarious adult show that’s perfectly fine for kids. I also think no one wants to.
Will Trent which sure sounds like a boring cbs procedural (actually on abc) but I’ve now heard from multiple people that it’s really good. Probably will try to check it out myself soon.
I watched the new Kaitlin Olson procedural because of course I love her and thought maybe it would be cool. I really like the dramatizations of her theorizing, like a Simpsons or 30 Rock cutaway. But the show was lousy. Some hack heard a new term for struggling smart people—‘High Potential’ and didn’t bother making any effort. “why are you like this?” “high potential (followed by Wikipedia-like explanation)”. Lazy and hamfisted. It was the first episode, but I won’t go back without a recommendation.
Then I remembered someone suggested Will Trent. It’s really good through a few episodes. Compelling characters. Giving some things away and letting others burn slow. Heavy and dark but still hitting the lighter notes. Too much for kids, but I can watch it on my time. I’ve had trouble lately settling into more long arc stuff. Procedurals are really good for tired people.
Along these lines, Evil is a good one. Has some storylines that carry through but there’s also usually a “case of the week”. Sometimes a little gory, sometimes campy, but always interesting. Same people that did The Good Wife, which is really underrated imo.
You’ll know within a few episodes if it’s for you.
I think it’s good, maybe? But I love watching Rings of Power.
I’d like to know how Tolkiendom responded to slime mold Sauron (very, very slight spoiler from the first episode weeks ago)—but they were upset enough about non-white middle earthlings that I don’t really want to look too hard. My thought was ‘I should really hate this. Maybe I’m too tired and don’t believe in anything anymore. Or maybe it’s sort of awesome? No it’s definitely not awesome. Or is it? OK, I took a breath: I hate it. Or love it.’
Patrick Warburton says after his first “Seinfeld ”episode he got 6-page letter from his 'disappointed' dad
"The first episode I did of Seinfeld, I got a six-page letter from my father about how disappointed he was in the choices I was making," Warburton said on a recent episode of Howie Mandel Does Stuff podcast.
The episode, "The Fusilli Jerry," introduced Warburton as David Puddy, the mechanic of Jerry Seinfeld's main character. "What it was," Warburton explained, "is I was his mechanic, and I stole his move and used it on Elaine. So they had an issue with the, not dealing with the sex act with any sanctity — because we all know the sex act is full of sanctity and nothing else." Warburton, being facetious, then told Mandel's daughter and cohost, Jackelyn Schultz, that "women should not be having orgasms or enjoying themselves. It's all about having babies! That is what it is for."
Warburton's father died six years ago. The rest of his family continues to disapprove of his work.
He revealed at a PaleyFest Panel to mark the 25th anniversary of Family Guy, the animated Fox series on which he voices Joe Swanson and other characters, that his mother tried to take it off the air. "My mother belonged to the American Television Council, and they were trying to get the show canceled," Warburton said. "I was helping support my parents with Family Guy money."
Bill Burr is my favorite thing. His yin yang, angry but trying and super tired energy is so good beneath the funny jokes themselves. It’s fun to see play out in a different format on SNL.
Did anyone on here ever watch a show called "Continuum"? It was on Sy-Fy about 10-12 years ago. It's about time travel, altering the future, etc.
I stumbled across it on one of the streaming platforms and have found it intriguing. I'm currently early in season 2, and so far, it has kept my attention throughout.
The combination of weather and trump had my feeling like I was living in a cold, hostile environment, and starting for all mankind this weekend was great timing. Feel like I’m living on the surface is the moon.
Fun show. Some terrible, unnecessary characters, but a cool show so far.
The weather also has me watching hockey again. LGB.
