Night 1 wasn’t great. Spent most of it hacking away from the sinus drainage, resulting in an extremely sore throat & rib cage - actually my whole body is sore. After talking to the triage nurse yesterday, I decided against using the Paxlovid therapeutic due to my renal issues and the potential side-effects to liver and kidney but have the prescription in hand if things change. Today my head is much clearer. I still have taste and smell and no gastrointestinal problems yet. Got the 5th jab on Jan 4 and it is hopefully mounting an aggressive defense.

If you want to help boost my spirits, submit a few playlists for the tourney. I’m stuck in the upstairs bedroom at least thru the weekend and need something to focus on.

Mrs Rad went positive this morning.

Bright side: Mild symptoms so far. It’ll be in our rear view mirror before the trip.

Flip side: She has to set aside her RA drugs because they are immunosuppressive and she’ll feel the effects of that as she recovers which will likely bleed over into the trip. But we’ll make whatever adjustments are needed. Our place is right on Old Town Square where there’s a ton to do and near the metro/tram stops for excursions.

My MIL wore a mask through the airport two weeks ago (practically illegal in Texas!) and still got covid. Tons of people I know got it over the past few weeks. Thankfully they're all vaccinated, but it's pretty bad now.

I think we've gotten to the point people just don't care.

I've known multiple people that went on cruises or flew somewhere. Half of them got it. Most just shrug it off, take a day or two, and are back at it.

We had a guy come into work. Looked like hammered horse [expletive]. We made him take a test, it was positive. So he went home. Everyone was like...I thought he was hungover *shrug* and got back to work.

Gotta imagine the % of people that have had it, are vaccinated, or both is over 90%. Just using this board, I can only think of one person that would qualify.

Also, do masks work? I think AD had made some points about it but can't remember what they were.

I don’t know the best way to frame this and still sound human, but also by now for positive and tragic reasons I think the most vulnerable are at less risk and of less concern.

I just mean to say they’ve already passed, they’ve got vaxxed, and there’s far more understanding of the disease by now. And people, reasonably mostly, aren’t going to yield real hard to them anymore.

Regarding if masks work or not, I don't know.

In December 2020, I had to fly from STL to Dallas. Anyway, masks were required anywhere in the airport, on the plane, just anywhere at this time. But, I witnessed person after person take off their mask to eat at a little bar area or table at the airport and about half of them would just set their mask on the table or surface of wherever they were after taking it off of their face. In my mind, having that mask with saliva, etc. on it sitting on bar tops and tables was way worse than just not wearing masks.

I guess there is no answer for stupidity no matter how stupid proof we try to be.

I just don't [expletive] know.
