@CardsofSTL, I may be the current forum geezer by age but based on your playlists there is no doubt that you are the oldest soul. The way you pull songs together from different eras and genres never fails to amaze me.

I've always liked older music and tend to have eclectic tastes.

That's weird. I clicked on the link and it started playing a playlist of Elvis songs. I don't have spotify, maybe it started playing a general Elvis station because I'm not premium.

When I click on it now it shows like 12 Elvis songs. There was a Kacey Musgraves cover too.

I did not grow up hearing Elvis. I grew up hearing Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Frank Zappa, Procol Harum, the Beatles, etc. I always preferred covers of Elvis songs over his originals because I had very little frame of reference for Elvis besides goofy impersonators on TV shows. @TGantz, you have a knack for weaving songs into cohesive playlists using a variety of artists from across the musical spectrum. In the 2 years of playlist tourneys, I’ve added more previously unknown songs/artists to my library from you than anyone else.

It is unbelievably cheesy and I've never said this out loud but my dream would be to be able to move my family to a cabin on some land and curate playlists for something like Pandora as a job. In other words, thank you for the massive compliment.

Elvis passed on before I was born but my Dad listened to his music a lot. Through the years there have been a lot of great covers of his recordings; and he did a few covers himself of other songs. It is not unusual to me to prefer a cover of a song to the original recording.

As mentioned I like a lot of different kinds of music. I liked your list too except for that second song. Something about dude's voice didn't appeal to me. But it fit in with the playlist just the same.

I hear ya. He was pretty young when he started performing so his voice has matured a bit since that video but sometimes it seems like he's trying too hard to be soulful.

I heard all of the bands I mentioned from my dad. Dads seem to have a huge influence on musical taste. Then older siblings took me through the Green Day, RHCP, Radiohead phase. My first CD was SmashMouth. I got into a Blink182, Yellowcard, and All American Rejects phase in HS. Transitioned into a hipster music phase during college years. Was primarily hip hop and R&B during my bouncer years in my early 20's. Moved on to country in my late 20's (less stuff you'd hear on the radio and more like my country playlist). Somehow I've transitioned into blues and soul music. I guess maybe jazz is next? Celtic river dancing? I need a phase to hold me over until my yacht rock phase later in life. Then I'll make a playlist of my musical journey from Smashmouth to Little River Band.
