Re: TV Thread - beware, [expletive] can get spoilery
For many years Ayo Edibiri has been one of the funniest guests on this podcast I listen to called Hollywood Handbook (and I still listen even though they stopped trying years ago).
It was inspiring to see her host SNL and choke up in the monologue. Usually I don’t get to see the come-up like that. Kumail, sort of?
Bottoms looks really fun too.

Monsieur Spade dropped out of nowhere on AMC a few weeks ago and it's great. Clive Owen as retired Sam Spade in the South of France in the 60s. Same guy that ran Queen's Gambit and wrote Out of Sight is behind it. I've seen complaints that it's slow or the dialogue is weird, but I can only conclude those people haven't seen 40s-style detective noir. Looks great too.

Are they trying to make it a horror series?
If it wasn’t called true detective, I wound bother finishing it.

Yeah I had high hopes after season 3 was pretty good (much better than the crap is season 2), but IMO it’s shaping up as even worse than season 2

So I have HBO again. I gave up on Severance around early Season 3 because the excruciating to delicious ratio was no longer working for me.
No regrets. However, I’m going to go back now and watch the finale. How far back would one suggest I go? Last two episodes? Last 3?

If you mean Succession, to me there’s very little difference in Seasons 1-3 and you either enjoy those actors and the dialogue or you don’t. Season 4 throws a wrench in things which was maybe overdue and I enjoyed how that changed some of the dynamics. The last few of season 3 is probably a good spot though, maybe even just the finale. You get context for how things go in Season 4.BottenFieldofDreams wrote: ↑February 5 24, 3:04 pmSo I have HBO again. Sure did mean Succession. Well read.
I’ll watch the Season 3 finale. I’m going to hold an option on skipping a bunch of season 4 episodes and cutting to the finale or penultimate episode.

Youtube has a whole genre of videos that do TV season recaps for recall/catch-up purposes, I use them sometimes when it's been so long since I watched the previous season and I want a better refresher than the network's ~90 seconds of recap. Could work well to just spend 10-20 minutes on one or two of those and you'll probably feel up to speed.

Don't skip episode 3, it's really good and that's the wrench.BottenFieldofDreams wrote: ↑February 5 24, 4:05 pmSure did mean Succession. Well read.

I don't think they know what they want it to be. It's either the story of courageous noble indigenous peoples battling against a mine, or an allegory about man's hubris in trying to scientifically engineer a way to live forever. But it's also a horror movie? But also it's about Real Detective Work, except we're now like 4 episodes in (out of 6!) and all we get are cops sitting around watching bodies thawing in a hockey rink, then occasionally interviewing someone who tells them to go away and reveals nothing new. The pacing is awful, and the dialogue isn't much better.cardsfantx wrote: ↑February 5 24, 2:56 pmYeah I had high hopes after season 3 was pretty good (much better than the crap is season 2), but IMO it’s shaping up as even worse than season 2

I really think the showrunners thought tying it into the lore of Season 1 would be enough.
