That’s funny. Good for you. I would have slipped away and moved back as quietly as possible like Buster Bluth. I ended up at the Big Thief show by myself because of a friend’s sick kids and was incredibly self-conscious as the lamest guy there (outside of a few bored dad’s who took their teens—even the old people there for Lucinda Williams were cooler than me) and one of seven non-lesbians.

I knew Primus did the South Park theme. What I had forgotten but googled later was that Ween was in Chef-Aid. So she wasn’t entirely off base.

I enjoyed both playlists.

Excellent choice of whistlers. The most famous, Dock of the Bay, was released posthumously after Redding died in a plane crash. When DOTB was released, it quickly became my go-to song when I needed to relax and escape the trials and tribulations of my 14-year old life. It still works today, only with better audio quality and only as far away as my phone.

I’ve listened to the Les Claypool list a couple of times now. I’ve always loved a good bassline so was drawn in and enjoyed what I heard. It reminded me of when we moved to NH in ‘17 and I discovered Morphine, a Boston band fronted by bassist Mark Sandman in the ‘90s.

In the end, the bass won my vote.

I love Morphine, @Radbird. Two of their songs are in the running, IMO, for saddest songs of all time. They're both beautiful, of course, but they're brutal and honest. These are two of my favorite songs of all time, any band or genre.

I'm not generally a fan of hair metal ballads, but the whistling is for sure a highlight of those songs.

Anyway, I can't see a whistling list without immediately thinking of Andrew Bird:

I just never got into Andrew Bird, for whatever reason. Thus his omission from my playlist.

Cure for Pain is an awesome album. It was my music of choice as I snowblowered the driveway yesterday.
