I'm watching Beef now. It's good! It's morphing into something different than my initial expectations. And I love all the inexplicable 90s music drops.
I loved Beef. Have you finished it?
I did!
[SHOW]
At first, I found the robbery/decapitation absurd, and kinda a disastrous break from the reality of the show. But I love where it ended up. With the two protagonists lost in the mountains, slowly hallucinating and expecting to die, fully disassociating from who they were as petty, vindictive people. It reached some truly lovely moments in that magical-realist state.

It's up for Emmy's in the Comedy categories, which is bizarre even though it's often very funny. Also a few laid-back, quieter episodes in there that are probably my favorites.
I agree, I kind of hate the category [expletive] but you kind of need to between today's blend of dramedy and established winners. It's a really great show.

New Futurama is great, if you don't like it, don't watch it.

I half-watched the new series from Mike Judge Praise Petey and Annie Murphy is better at voice work than I anticipated, the premise is delightfully weird, but I'm not quite hooked. Maybe a proper viewing would change it and I'll keep giving it a go.

The shine is off the apple for me with Always Sunny. It's not that the new stuff isn't good, the shtick has just gotten old to me.

Gemstones absolutely rocks.

If you liked Justified, the new season of that is pretty stellar. Boyd Holbrook is a helluva villain, hard to remember he was the kinda goofy gringo in Narcos.

wrt Futurama I don’t believe I’d seen very much at all since the really weak DVD movies and the series finale. I’ve been watching Season 10 and it’s really fun.

The soundtrack to The Bear is excellent.

They used some of the score from Thief in the Richie episode from season 2 and I gasped and pointed at the tv like that DiCaprio gif

Season 2 of The Afterparty isn’t as good. It’s missing Ben Schwartz and his chemistry with Sam Richardson. But I’m still on board. Deconstructing tropes and genres always gets me going.

It’s fun to watch Tiffany Haddish bounce off all the alt comedy/improv (or whatever they’re called these days) actors.

Anyway if you haven’t seen season one and Community meets Rashomon with a slice of Agatha Christie by Lord and Miller sounds appealing, go for it.

I'm watching Barry now. Interesting show. Barry himself is this mysterious blank slate. I keep thinking the writers will make some grander point about how he became what he is, but they only hint at it.

Is this a show about Obama?

Catching up on season 2 of "Only Murders In The Building". I wasn't the biggest fan of season 1, watched mostly because Mrs Mortimer likes it, but it was fine. Season 2 has fallen off a cliff, though. The characters have all become dumb as [expletive], especially Selena Gomez, who's tricked by the most obvious "using you for fame" woman of all time, then wanders about the city while she knows there's an annoyed murderer out there. They forgive the people who murdered their friends, while handwaving away having any reason for doing so. Tina Fey is a cartoon character.

There's also the central problem of this season's murder victim being a miserable old [expletive] who no-one liked, meaning I don't really care who did it or why.

It feels like it's either a story not worth telling, or 6 episodes worth of plot stretched to 10, or 11, or however many it ends up being. Bear in mind I've got four episodes left and it might stick the landing, but I'm really struggling to give a damn. Was it well-received? Am I talking nonsense?

I think you have to just go in understanding it’s a cartoony implausible show. I do think it’s gotten more so, but that’s fine. It’s definitely one I watch while looking up from my phone.

Reservation Dogs just started its 3rd and last season. That’s a great option if you’re looking for a comedy with a bit more weight.

I still need to start the new season of What we do in the Shadows

I'm not sure what I expected from "Only Murders..." but perhaps I'm just not interested in TV any more. It's bearing the brunt of my annoyance because it's pretty much the only scripted show I watch.

(I did try "Once Upon A Time" a few months ago, as it had lots of pretty people and some great plots to chew through, but I stopped after 10 episodes or so. My heart's not in it)

The problem with Severance was it wasn’t a movie starring Jon Hamm.

This has been corrected. There’s a trailer and everything. If a single person who saw the show watched that trailer without thinking of it I’ll eat my Geico Cavemen the Series t shirt.
