I get the hindsight is 20/20 sentiment regarding past moves.

BUT Arozarena, Garcia, Thomas (that combo will put up a combined 15+ WAR this year). And then Gallen and Alcantara. I think it's highlighted more given how the organization has developed or not developed the guys they hung on to. (To jagtraders point).

However, whatever the situation, whatever they why, the who, the specifics regarding Arozarena, Garcia, Thomas, Gallen and Alcantaras, I think the success they are having should be noticed and recognized. "Well, at the time, Arozarena wasn't expected to be much." That's all fine and good and I guess wouldn't sting quite as much if ANY of the guys we hung onto became something other than a turd. But, the success of Arozarena and others listed above should not be ignored. They have produced what they have produced no matter what anyone's analytics, projections in earlier years told them. What they have done counts and what they have done is so much more than the turds we hung onto. There is a problem, a gap, a flaw somewhere along the way in the organization.

The miss with Carlson, O'Neill, Flaherty.... Was it talent evaluation? Is it talent development? If they had kept all of the the guys originally mentioned above and traded Carlson, O'Neill, Flaherty instead, would the results be opposite?

Just because our analytics and talent evalution told us something different a few years ago, doesn't negate or erase today's production/reality.
O’Neill and Flaherty weren’t misses. Flaherty’s 2019 and O’Neill’s 2021 are enough evidence of that. They just haven’t been able to stay healthy. Carlson is still young and it’s way too know if he will become a stud or not. One thing I will say, though, is even though every team struggles with injuries, it seems like the Cards seem to struggle with it more often, especially when it comes to pitching. I also think our minor league coaches are much better at developing pitching than our major league ones.

What point are you making, exactly? That middling consistency is better than volatility that comes with higher highs and lower lows? Genuinely trying to understand your perspective.
Danny White is a coattail rider based off of his dad being an AD. Heupel was on decline every year at UCF and Hooker was an anomaly. Barnes needs to be fired. Yassin’s has good gyros, though.

It's a total package. If you gonna poop on White, Heupel and Barnes then stay out of Yassin's.

Maybe Carlson could use a change of scenery. He’s at 1,400 plate appearances. The last 700 have been below league average. It’s probably not gonna happen in St. Louis.

If he needs a change of scenery, the Cards can provide it by replacing Oli and his coaches.

Last year's team had the 3rd most wins since 2006.
Notably not responding to the substance of the post. I expected that.

And sorry to be blunt, but who cares about the win total? Nobody's hanging a "Third-Most Wins Since 2006" banner at Busch. They won zero postseason games to continue their prolonged stretch of playoff futility. That's the franchise they've become. Many are worse, but more than we're used to are now better. If that's good enough for you, maybe you'll get inducted into the BFIB HOF.

The only program that matters at UK is in total disarray, your baseball program has still never been to the College World Series (only program in the SEC!), and the a** beating your (supposedly) good football team took at Neyland (wasn't it 45-6?) last year is a sign of things to come. We even?

There's value in consistency and the Tennessee program that you used as an example of a sports org doing a better job pursuing greatness hasn't achieved anything close to the Cards success under Mo, and if they do achieve that kind of success, you will lose them to better jobs because of the nature of the program and its place in the rapidly evolving college sports landscape. I personally appreciate being good most of the time and not having to go super long stretches without being relevant, like Tennessee.
Yeah, you missed my point. The point was that the bad stretch was the anomaly for Tennessee. They hired a guy who recognized this and made a public commitment to fix the problem, and his efforts are already paying off handsomely. I don't see the same urgency with the Cardinals. Until this year, the lows weren't terribly low, but now the bottom has fallen out. I want people running the ship who don't tolerate mediocrity, and I'm not sure we have that with our current front office. At least not anymore.

And just for fun, I'd be willing to bet that Tennessee could fend off almost any offer for either Danny White or Josh Heupel (assuming they maintain something close to their current success). UCLA came calling for Barnes a few years ago, LSU had a lot of interest in Tony Vitello ... we've seen it before. Best sports conference, one of the premier NIL programs, incredible facilities, large and dedicated fan base, etc. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it's weird that you portray Tennessee as a stepping stone.

The playoffs are a crapshoot. The 100+ wins of 2004, 2005, and 2015 didn’t win a title. 2 of 3 didn’t make the World Series.

The crappy 2006 and 2011 teams won it all.

2012 team wouldn’t have made the playoffs in 2011. They survived a bad infield fly call in our favor, won a road game 5 despite being down to their last strike, and almost made the World Series.

A 1-9 stretch sucks, but anything can happen in a 10 game sample. It’s not indicative of a crappy GM, that’s for sure.

I'm sorry Mrs. M, I know it must be hard to hear people talk sh!t about your husband. But he's not getting it done and it's time for a change. Wouldn't it be nice to have him around the house a lot more?

Another article, this time with quotes from Dewitt. I won't post it since it's behind a paywall but the takeaways, since specific players were named.

Dewitt expects us to play better in the second half (thanks Dewitt lol)

The rest from D Goold:

Jordan Walker, Nootbaar, Arenado and Goldy are not getting moved.

Logan Gilbert, Clayton Beeter (right hander in the Yankees system) and Lance Lynn are names of interest listed for the Cardinals

Flaherty is drawing interest from other teams. So is Carlson. They're open on offers for Monty, Hicks, Helsley and Cabrera
