Re: SLAP
They seriously wrote a joke about her alopecia? There's no way they didn't know. Somehow I know and it's not like I'm reading celeb gossip sites.
I don't know when the Oscar's cam to be thought of like a Friar's roast. Gervais was doing that with the Golden Globes and that was also stupid and cringy.

Re: SLAP
As a legal matter, it's pretty clearly battery, which is defined as a nonconsensual contact causing harm, and probably also assault (the threat of that harm). It can be prosecuted even if the victim declines to press charges, but that is very unlikely in a case with no physical injury.
But mostly it's just hilarious that squeaky clean Will Smith is the one doing this. We're also all really fortunate there aren't any racial/gender mismatches in perpetrator and victim here otherwise we would all die under the weight of the hot takes.

That’s basically where I’m at. Though it sounds like people are a lot lower on Big Willy than me.ghostrunner wrote: ↑March 28 22, 9:06 amI just wish it had been Ricky Gervais.
I'm for comedians being able to make jokes at people's expense, but I'm also for them having to consider whether that's a good idea.
Bizarre that people apparently want Smith arrested for that though.
It’s Jada’s burden, obviously I don’t get to tell her how to feel about it. Personally, I wouldn’t think alopecia would be clearly or obviously off limits depending on the dynamics ( superstar to superstar here). I think another celeb would have found it funny.

Re: SLAP
It seemed really staged and weird. Like he was going to walk up there and take the mic to say something funny and decided he'd hit him last second. Or he tried to hit the mic away and got his cheek. Will Smith is not small, and not weak. If he hit him squarely with the force his arm was moving, I don't think Rock would be able to recover into a joke so quickly.
I didn't watch live. It seemed really delayed from the time of the joke. Just super weird incident. But look what we're doing, talking about the Oscars for the first time in years.

Re: SLAP
I think what happened was he reacted to his wife's reaction and saw that it bugged her which was clear right off the bat. He laughed in the moment but I can chalk that up to discomfort. Time and reaction is weird when it's happening to you. I've had many times over the years where I only realize after the fact that someone pissed me off or that someone was messing with me. I'm kind of amazed when anyone reacts to provocation right away.TGantz wrote: ↑March 28 22, 11:32 amIt seemed really staged and weird. To me that joke is over the line, but everyone's got to deal with those things their own way. I wouldn't do what Smith did, but I get it.

Re: SLAP
Could it have been staged for publicity?
Will they have a project together being announced soon?

No one cared about the Oscars before last night. It was a dead cultural institution. Now everyone’s talking about it. Of course it was staged.Fat_Bulldog wrote: ↑March 28 22, 12:26 pmCould it have been staged for publicity?
