Just recalled the dread of hearing Xmas carolers working their way up the street to my house.

Big cast iron fan here for anything other than eggs. Typically they smoke because they're either not clean and the old food bits burn or the oil/seasoning smoke point is reached. Its not going to hurt the pan to clean it with soap and water, but they need to be dried really well to avoid rust, or better yet just throw it back on the stove and heat it up to dry it. Then, might as well add some oil to it which helps protect it.

Or just don't clean it, leaving the drippings in there to protect it and live with the smoke.

As an aside, my favorite way to dispose of grease is to cut the top off an aluminum can with a can opener and pour it in there.

Regardless, they're cheap and hold/distribute heat well. They last forever given a modicum of care. And, they're versatile enough to be used on a stovetop, in an oven, or on a grill. They work with induction cookers. They cook just about anything you can imagine save cheesy sauces and scrambled eggs. And, even those can be done if you take the time to properly clean/season it.

I picked up a couple of these a couple years ago and still use them to scrape the skillet after use. Takes a little more effort than a teflon pan or whatever, so there's that. But, like the skillets, these things last forever as well. Scrape, clean with water, run a towel over it, heat it, add oil. Or don't. We use cast iron probably 5 times a week and will give it the full cleaning maybe once or twice a week/opting to leave stuff like bacon bits in there until the next go around.

Our soft car top carrier/duffle was shredding apart from the wind by time we arrived home after 750 mile trip.

Amazon should start making an Elf on the Shelf model of Alexa, that way you're not lying to your kids when you tell them that the elf is always watching and listening to them to make sure they're not being naughty.

So we are in the waiting area at the hospital and there is a string group playing in the lobby. It's so wonderful and relaxing. What a cool idea.

Any traffic trouble with construction?

No it was pretty smooth going really. We ended up being about an hour early because I had planned for more traffic.
