Do people really call plumbers for a running toilet?

Yes

I had a running toilet and called a plumber after my attempts to fix it failed. I knew it was just the stupid gasket under the flapper and tried my best to replace it but I just couldn't get the damn thing to sit right so I called the professionals. He replaced the gaskets in my other two toilets while he was there (I think he felt sorry for me). He was there for about 15 minutes and cost it me less than $200. The frustration it saved me was worth every penny.
