I wonder how many bad spring starts from Mikolas it would take before we call up Arrieta. Or an injury to someone important -- Weaver and Wacha come to mind.
Any GM who thinks this way should be fired immediately.
That would be true of an established major leaguer, but Mikolas hasn't earned the benefit of the doubt. I think there's legitimate questions about whether he can be a reliable starter for us. If we're getting close to Opening Day and Mikolas isn't showing he's a different pitcher then he was before, we should start looking around for alternatives as a starter. Let Mikolas try to work things out/prove himself in the bullpen.
But if a GM was willing to give him $15mm on a 2 year deal, he better not pull the plug in spring freaking training.
I didn’t say release him. But he needs to earn that rotation spot and if he can’t do that, there is an incredibly good option just sitting out there.

He was purchased to be a starter. Deviating from that plan in spring training would be an indication that the GM has no idea what he's doing.

If he doesn't fit here(hopefully on the merit of another of our starting options) we need to approach a trade with another team that was interested in him this winter. They all saw his success in Japan. But each team also saw future tweaks that would make him even better. Scouting had him learning to locate more of his secondary pitches, while just improving his command overall. So he should reach expectations quickly, and show room for further growth. Even if he doesn't work out here a team like the Orioles, for instance, could still be interested.

Lance Lynn apparently turned down an offer "higher" than 2/12 from the twins. Not clear how much higher.

Surely that can't be right. 2 @ $12MM AAV would be a much more reasonable (though probably still rejected at this point) offer.

I would do 2/$24MM in a heartbeat for Lynn.

I’m all about deals but 2/12 or 2/24 just FEELS wrong. Poor Lynn.

Not too clear from the Twins source of that story. Oh twitter.

I think it depends on how far of a deviation you're talking about.

If he turns out to be our Andrew Miller or something, that would be a fine deviation to me. If they just turn him into a low-leverage reliever or cut him immediately, that'd be disappointing.
