That would be true of an established major leaguer, but Mikolas hasn't earned the benefit of the doubt. I think there's legitimate questions about whether he can be a reliable starter for us. If we're getting close to Opening Day and Mikolas isn't showing he's a different pitcher then he was before, we should start looking around for alternatives as a starter. Let Mikolas try to work things out/prove himself in the bullpen.dmarx114 wrote:Any GM who thinks this way should be fired immediately.I wonder how many bad spring starts from Mikolas it would take before we call up Arrieta. Or an injury to someone important -- Weaver and Wacha come to mind.

But if a GM was willing to give him $15mm on a 2 year deal, he better not pull the plug in spring freaking training.Fat Strat wrote:That would be true of an established major leaguer, but Mikolas hasn't earned the benefit of the doubt. 2/15 really isn't that much (not that I would judge based off of one start.)
Anyone remember how much we paid Junior Spivey to end up not being our second baseman?

Certainly not with the question mark of Waino in the rotation already. We need to see what all of them can do for at least a slightly extended period of time.dmarx114 wrote:But if a GM was willing to give him $15mm on a 2 year deal, he better not pull the plug in spring freaking training.Fat Strat wrote:That would be true of an established major leaguer, but Mikolas hasn't earned the benefit of the doubt. They took a bit of a gamble on Mikolas. Gambles don't always pay off. Give him some time to prove himself but can't be afraid to cut bait.

I love that name. He really should be a broken-down stuffed animal in a Winnie-the-Pooh story.Tim wrote:Ty Wigginton
