It's an amazing deal. Fills a huge need for the Chiefs at corner or slot corner, gives us an extra pick since we don't have our 1st (Mahomes trade), opens the way for Mahomes, and clears $17M in cap space while only adding back a tiny fraction of that.

'Skins get an established QB who is an expert in their offensive system, almost certainly cut salary compared to what Cousins was going to make (and probably won't lose much production), but had to give up a player some consider their best defender and a valuable draft pick.

You can see what the Skins were thinking, and it's always a tough deal when you have to trade for a QB. Chiefs made out like bandits. When they cut Derrick Johnson, let Tamba Hali go, and make a few other low-impact cost-saving moves, they'll have quite a bit of cap space to fill holes on a team that was already pretty loaded. It just comes down to Mahomes... and he has looked pretty much amazing every time I've seen him (preseason, week 17... admittedly small and imperfect sample size).

I have a meeting in half an hour with my group. They're all based in Boston. I'd bet the odds that the Superbowl comes up are pretty good. I am a little surprised that the game didn't come up in our group meeting on Monday so it is definitely coming up today. I need the strength to not go off on a tangent regarding my extreme dislike of the Patriots and NFL in general although I guess we could find common ground on hating Eagles fans.

I was OK with the Eagles and am still fine with the team but after seeing video of their fans throwing anything they could get their hands on at the Vikings' team bus after the NFC Championship and throwing what looked like full beers at Viking's fans walking towards the stadium before the game... screw them. I can't root for something that will make them happy. I guess I'm going to have to hate myself and go full heel and root for the Patriots. Even typing that made me want to throw up a little.

I decided after the teams were set that I wasn't even going to go any Superbowl gathering but then I realized that I really should go to my friend's party. We've been giving him a hard time about not having anybody over to his new house for the past year so now that he's inviting us all over, I am going. The reason for not having anybody over despite our complaints is that he was tearing the house apart room by room and redoing it all on his own so I am at least looking forward to seeing what he did, especially his man cave in the basement where he finally got the projector installed two weeks ago.

Alex Smith was somehow the highest-rated QB in the NFL this year. As a Broncos fan, I'm glad to see him out of the division. He was never spectacular, but he was consistently good enough to give us fits.

Yeah, I had heard that. I wish the Chief would have jumped on that, but I don't blame them for not. Talib is a jackass, and the Chiefs likely wouldn't want to face Alex Smith twice every year.

I know it's disingenuous to talk all the time about how you don't care about the NFL. I am even kind of amused by Patriots v Everyone such that nominal differences in air pressure can become a six month firestorm.

But then I saw if you want Tom Brady's TB12 yoga mat it will cost you $80. So go Eagles.

I was surprised the market for Smith developed as quickly as it did. We're not even to the Super Bowl yet. When is the last time there was a rush on a QB before the previous season had even ended? Shows you how well Smith is respected inside the game (outside of the fantasy football sports talk radio fan world). It's not going to be as easy as some think for Mahomes to be as successful as Smith was (even with Smith's failures).

There was no way the Chiefs were going to intentionally help Denver improve. That deal was never going to happen. Donkeys should go after Cousins.
