You have to give DeJong credit over Grichuk in that he's not as streaky as Grichuk is.

I think Trevor Story is a good comp.
1st season great. .272/.341/.567, decently good 8.4% BB%, but an alarming 31.3% K%. Decent defense, all sums up to 2.9 fWAR in 415 PA's.
2nd season, not so good. .239/.308/.457, still held decently good BB% (8.8%), but K% pushed even higher (34.4%). Better defensive numbers, still only summed up to 1.3 fWAR in 555 PA's.
DeJong strikes out a bit less (28% in 2017), but walks half as much (4.7%). If he struggles with BABIP this year and pitchers make a few adjustments where he isn't hitting as many HR's, he could crater pretty easily.
His upside is intriguing, but my concern lies in that we don't really have a great backup plan if he stinks.

Dejong turned a .349 BABIP and a .247 ISO into a 122 wRC+. The only two hitters I could find exceeding both those ISO and BABIP marks are Harper and Judge, who had wRC+ numbers of 156 and 173, respectively. The regression on Dejong will be hard IMO.

Would like to see his walk rate come up to 6-7% and then I'm totally fine with him.
Can't say he's Grichuk at SS because Grichuk played better OF defense than DeJong plays SS. But it's a good comp at the plate.

Curious to those of you that would know this type of thing. How much would a one year offer to Moose be for if they extended one?

Feels weird, like the ship is maybe sinking. I don't read it anywhere near as often as I used to, partly because (no surprise) I got a bit bored of their constant "here's what's best for ownership" take on every issue.Jocephus wrote:damn it now eno is leaving fangraphs
