I think the Cubs are significantly better than the Cards. That's why I think making marginal moves like adding Addison Reed aren't much to get worked up about. Do the best you can in 2018, and then go all-in for 2019, when the pieces should line up more to our liking.

I don't think the term "all-in" is in this front office's vocabulary.

Not necessarily all in, but unless you are one of the five worst teams in the league you should always be adding. Regardless they should be adding more than Ozuna, a blindfolded dart throw and a reliever who gave up a billion homers who’s nw our de facto closer.

I think we’re at the point where Ownership realizes the difference between fielding a good team and a great team isn’t worth the cost. The Cardinals being an 88 win team vs a 95 win team isn’t worth the cost of adding additional salary, so they’ll just do like Fat Strat said and continue to be a contender but not looking to be much more than that for the foreseeable future.

It’s not worth the cost to them. It’s disappointing to me. The only thing I can do is not buy tickets.

Yeah that's what I mean. For the fans it sucks but to them, I don't think there's really enough of a difference in terms of attendance and revenue for them to go the extra mile.

I was looking for a compelling reason to re-invest in the team during the summer and I did not get one. I'm definitely more interested in Weaver and Ozuna than I was, say, Piscotty and Lynn, but that will wear off pretty early in the season. And I'm much less interested in watching the older stars than I've ever been. Wainwright is just depressing (and I'll be shocked if he makes it through 15 starts with us... I actually think there's a good chance he can't make it out of ST). Molina isn't an attraction anymore, even if he is still a viable starter.

Who knows. Maybe we'll be wrong and DeJong will end up as one of the best SS's in the league, Mikolas will be a Lynn, and Gregerson/Lyons will be one of the best relief combos in the league. But, the club hasn't even talked about those guys that way, so I'm not sure why we should think that they'll do that.

After so many years where it felt like we were the Midwest version of the Yankees, it's kind of staring to feel like we're just another version of the Reds or the Twins.

I disagree. I think they have a shot to be REALLY good in 2019 by keeping the current youngsters on the squad, and adding a big-name free agent next off-season.
