There are ways to get out. How do you feel about stating, on record, that you are prejudiced against all minorities? Or that you don't believe in the supremacy of the United States Constitution, or any laws based upon it?
I will never get to serve on a jury - lawyers always get bounced, like Lipp noted.* But what's weird is I've never even received a jury summons. I've been a registered voter for 21 years now.
*one of my colleagues actually made it onto a jury last year; ironically, it was an attorneys' fees dispute case
I've received at least three Sharper Image catalogs in the mail this holiday season. At first, I was surprised Sharper Image is still hanging on with all the retail that has gone under recently with the shift to online shopping. Also, I haven't bought anything from Sharper Image, so I'm not sure why they are so persistent with the mailings. I only remember going to the one in Union Station as a kid once a year when we went for Christmas and marveling at all the stuff they had, like the hologram bowl thing and the massage chairs.
So, good on you, Sharper Image, for sticking around, but one catalog is enough.
I thought I'd remembered that they went out of business, and checking Wikipedia, they went bankrupt in 2008. Somebody has just bought the name to run a website and catalog.
I learned the other day Spencer's still has actual physical locations. I was shocked and kinda happy about that. When a was a mall shopping tween Spencer's was always a highlight. I loved their dirty card birthday cards section.
Spencers was nice but nothing beat Hefalump's when I was in high school. Our school was not far away so of course we'd go there every so often during lunch or on our free period to look at the naughty cards.
