The series did drag and I ultimately didn't like how little cotton mouth amounted to in the end, but it was still very good.
Cotton Mouth was the worst of the four villains. Remy Denton was my favorite.
I think you meant to say Diamondback. He just about killed the show for me. He was like a CW supervillain - both in terms of costume and performance. I do think all the Defenders shows have been 4-5 episodes too long.
Yes, you're right. Thanks. Cottonmouth was very well done. I thought JJ was an episode or two too long. Same for each season of Daredevil. Some of that may be attributed to binge watching vs how most series' are on TV. There's always bad episodes or dead spots in series. At least those prior two were only 8 episodes each, IIRC. This was 13. I guess they felt they needed to take it to a specific point prior to the Defenders.
Nah, Daredevil and Jessica Jones have all been 13 episodes as well. Iron Fist and The Punisher (which are the next two series in the Defenders lineup on Netflix) are both coming out in early- to mid-2017 and are also 13 episodes for their first seasons per IMDB. Oddly enough, though, the actual Defenders entry in IMDB only shows eight episodes for the first season.

Before Luke Cage started, I would have pegged it as more likely with Jessica, Hellcat, and Luke.

Wow. I don't know why I thought that. Maybe I didn't binge those like I did with this one. I do, though, remember some dead spots and weaker episodes, so being at 13 makes more sense.

Well, they at least kept to the original comic storyline somewhat, as Carl Lucas was framed by his childhood friend Willis Stryker and sent to prison. Although in the comics he volunteered for the experiment in exchange for an early parole rather than only getting the experiment because he was dying from the prison fight.

He's married to Jessica Jones in the comics, so I'm kind of bummed to see that she hasn't been involved in this series at all, despite him appearing probably half of the episodes of the first season of her show late last year. I'm guessing the season ends with Luke and Misty Knight creating the Heroes for Hire?***

***I'm only halfway through episode 12, so perhaps something will change regarding this in the final 90 minutes of the season.
Finished it last night. Boy was I off on my prediction. I did like the little easter egg showing off Iron Fist as the next show in the Defenders series, though.

Yeah I read the spoilers so I knew who was getting it. Still more gruesome than I anticipated. This will be the most bleak season yet.

Part of me agrees with the criticism that last night was extremely excessive and sadistic, essentially torturing the fans. It was definitely bleak and joyless and just... really uncomfortable to watch, and not in a good way, not in the way that you might feel tension watching a character you like making bad decisions with ugly consequences. This was beyond that.

But another part of me was pretty [expletive] happy that they decided to actually kill off some characters. That they stopped doing the really stupid song and dance where they almost kill Glenn, then let him live. And that they didn't leave any doubt at all about it like the stupid [expletive] garbage dumpster thing. It was gruesome and it was brutal, but it was also satisfying because:

a) They actually killed meaningful characters. In my head, the bar was so low that I half-expected them to take all of their over the top lead up to that scene, and then kill off Rosita or the gay dude or pick any character that nobody cares about.

b) They actually didn't make the audience wait longer. When it got 20 minutes in and they hadn't shown who it was, I thought for sure they were going to drag that [expletive] out to next week or worse, two weeks from now. Thankfully, and wisely, they didn't do that.

Even before I read the spoilers, I figured Abe was done. The "taking it like a champ" line was a big reason why. Plus, we saw him show some optimism at the end of last season, and once anyone in this show gets a glimmer of hope, it's curtains.

I wouldn't have guessed Glenn otherwise, but not surprised that they killed two. Of course he died that way in the graphic novels, and the show needed to up the ante.

Yeah, that Talking Dead show is weird.....it's a damn TV show and these people act as though they're living out real life deaths.
