Mayor of Toronto might or might not have been caught on video smoking crack

So, Rob Ford, the crack-smoking mayor.

It turns out that some of his brothers used to deal drugs back in the day, including his brother Doug who is now on the Toronto City Council. And that another brother once kidnapped a guy who wasn't paying for his drugs. And that his sister was a white supremacist, and her boyfriend once shot her in the face, and one of her ex-husbands killed one of her boyfriends.

And that video, of the mayor of the biggest city in Canada smoking crack? Someone might have been killed for it, and folks in the mayor's office may have been hiding that information from the cops.

All this is happening in Toronto! In Canada, where people are supposed to be nice and friendly.

So, Rob Ford! Toronto's possibly crack-smoking mayor. The video never surfaced, so while Ford has a long and extremely checkered history that makes you wonder how this dirtbag ever achieved high political office, this particular scandal kind of faded away.

Except that the video just surfaced. And while apparently there is no chance of a prosecution, Toronto cops are, in fact, in possession of a video starring their mayor, smoking a crack pipe.

"New York" magazine has a helpful primer on Rob Ford. Reminder, Rob Ford is mayor of a metropolis, the largest (I think? Montreal?) city in Canada and definitely the most important.

Being outed as a drug user, and disappearing, presumably to end up in a gutter somewhere, has actually bumped Rob Ford's standing in the polls.

BTW, Rob Ford surfaced on the radio show hosted by his brother (who as I noted upthread used to be a drug dealer) and refused to resign. And there are hints of a second video which is even more shocking, which I can't imagine how, unless Ford was caught on tape strangling a hooker.

In non-Rob Ford news...as if there's anything else worth talking about...a German spa called Kristall Sauna ran an ad advertising a romantic "Kristall-nacht".

The promotion was on the 75th anniversary of Kristallnacht.
