If they play this way against Texas A&M and Ole Miss, they will lose.

If Kentucky had only tackled Henry Josey, he wouldn't have scored.

That's what I was seeing. Then I wondered if I was being too negative. I can't tell.JL21 wrote:If they play this way against Texas A&M and Ole Miss, they will lose.

Is mail throwing to dgb more? I may be making this up but it seems like he's been getting a lot more action since Franklin went out.

Re: Mizzou football '13
Looking at the target info, DGB has been targeted 4 times v. Tennessee, 4 v. South Carolina, and I believe 7 times today (per David Morrison of the Tribune). I can't find reliable Florida target numbers, but he caught 3 passes in that game.
For contrast, he was targeted 5 times v. Georgia (no clue how it breaks down Mauk/Franklin), he caught 2 v. Vandy (can't find target info), 7 v. Arkansas St., 11 v. Indiana, 8 v. Toledo, and 5 v. Murray St.
It's a little incomplete, but if anything, Franklin targeted DGB MORE than Mauk, not less. Part of that could be that they were playing a weaker schedule, so I wouldn't put tons of stock in it. But in the very least, the evidence we have doesn't indicate that Mauk's using DGB more. I wish I could find out if it's just a matter of Mauk using him more effectively, which is very possible.

Re: Mizzou football '13
Mauk throws a more catchable deep ball and is less afraid to go downfield, even into coverage. So the number of targets might not be more, but I think he creates more big plays that don't require run after the catch. I hope Franklin is paying attention because we have some serious playmakers on the outside.

Re: Mizzou football '13
Agreed. But the flip side is that Franklin does a better job of keeping the offense on schedule, out of passing downs. It's a give and take, and Franklin is less risky.
Mauk's entire development is going to hinge on getting better at knowing when to take risks and when to avoid them. It won't take much for him to become a serious headache for opposing defenses.

Yeah, I would still take a healthy Franklin over Mauk overall at this point in his career. Just wish he would look a little more for the jump ball/back shoulder throw over the check down with the receivers we have.
