So who sent the pic, Manti? Either he's lying or the girl who's image was stolen per the initial article is lying.Manti Te'o has told family and friends that the woman who was the voice of his fictitious girlfriend "Lennay Kekua" called him in December and said she had to fake her own death months earlier to elude drug dealers, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser has learned.
The woman, who has yet to be identified, tried to re-engage a relationship with Te‘o months after she supposedly had died of leukemia in early September, the Notre Dame All-American linebacker has told the people close to him. The account was shared with the Star-Advertiser by a source close to the Te‘o family.
According to the account, Te'o asked the woman to transmit a photo to him with a date stamp, which she did, but this did not allay his suspicions and he later told his family and Notre Dame officials about being scammed.

Sort of off topic here....but what sucks about what ESPN has become is that I can't believe anything they "report" on these stories because they to do nothing but promote their own agenda.
The other cynical side of me thinks that any story or "confession" supporting the narrative that he was simply duped or naive are nothing but the product of Tom Condon of CAA running the PR machine for him now after a couple days have passed.

Yeah, suddenly the most widely accepted explanation is more or less exactly what his people want us to believe, which is the most positive interpretation of what actually happened possible.stlouie_lipp wrote: The other cynical side of me thinks that any story or "confession" supporting the narrative that he was simply duped or naive are nothing but the product of Tom Condon of CAA running the PR machine for him now after a couple days have passed.
Even if I believe it was a hoax that he was not involved in, I think people are giving him too much credit here. When you are a major D1 athlete you are around your teammates and coaches almost every hour of the day that you aren't sleeping (or in his case supposedly making 8 hr phone calls to some dude using a [expletive] voice changer). It's pretty telling to read that his teammates didn't ever buy the long distance gf story and basically rolled their eyes at his overreaction to the "death". Plus he was supposedly banging other girls at ND.
So at an absolute minimum, he oversold the gf angle and it wasn't out of embarrassment. It was because the long distance true love car accident leukemia blah blah blah is [expletive] catnip to sportswriters and subsequently the Jay Leno set that ultimately decides who becomes rich and famous. Even after he was purportedly made aware of the hoax he continued to voluntarily bring up that storyline. I don't give a [expletive] that it wasnt specifically to get Heisman votes anymore. It still adds to the Manti Te'o Story that he's a Good Guy and has Faced Adversity and Overcome Obstacles and Relies on Faith. It's his idea of becoming the next Tim Tebow that will sell a bunch of jerseys and get signed to national endorsements even if he can't hang at the pro level. He wasn't in love with Lennay, he was in love with himself. And for that, he's a [expletive] bag.

ESPN exclusive interview at 11:00pm on a Friday night. What kind of [expletive] do these people think we are? I'm [expletive] done with sports...I swear to God, I'm [expletive] done.

I don't think many people really like sports more than soap operas.stlouie_lipp wrote:ESPN exclusive interview at 11:00pm on a Friday night. What kind of [expletive] do these people think we are? I'm [expletive] done with sports...I swear to God, I'm [expletive] done.

Jeremy schaap is apparently on the Te'o payroll. And also appeared to have to pee really bad. That was awkward.
