I can't watch anything here at work, but I'm a fan of Holst's work. "Mars" is probably my favorite movement.sighyoung wrote:
The "Uranus" movement (tee hee) from Gustav Holst's suite The Planets. Performed by the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (an outstanding orchestra), conducted by Matthias Bamert.

Sad story out here.
Conductor dies leading philharmonic in concert
Conductor dies leading philharmonic in concert
LITTLETON — Arapahoe Philharmonic conductor Vincent C. LaGuardia Jr. knew exactly how he wanted to leave this world.
Friday night he got his wish halfway through Bach's "Toccata and Fugue."
His wife, Tracy, who was playing the violin in the orchestra, looked up just as her 68-year-old husband leaned forward and collapsed face first to the floor at Mission Hills Church in Littleton.
"It happened so fast. He always said that's the way he wanted to go," Tracy LaGuardia said tearfully Saturday. "He was amazing — amazing."
Doctors in the audience could not revive Vincent LaGuardia, who has been leading musicians ever since the tender age of 5 as the head of a line of noisy friends marching and clanging down the streets of Little Italy in northwest Denver.
LaGuardia had led the philharmonic, made up mostly of volunteer musicians, since 1993. Before that he had been the director of the University of Denver's Lamont School of Music.

Got an email from mini-Rad's undergrad school and thought I would share the video. Nice little piano piece and some good NYC views.

We’re doing something a little different today and are sharing with you a video from Assistant Professor of Music Michael Mizrahi.
The video showcases his song "The Bright Motion" (from the album of the same name), and features not only Mizrahi’s dazzling talent but some pretty cool scenes of the musician himself. The video was also featured on NPR's First Watch.
