Re: The Beer Thread
One thing about the hoppy beer--I can't drink a hoppy IPA then convert to stout or a lager in the same evening without the other beers tasting awful. maybe that plays a favorable role for IPAs in the best beer lists.

Re: The Beer Thread
Recent beercation to Wisconsin - good grief they make some great beer up there. All the New Glarus I tried were top notch (except an Imperial Weizen which I found out is regrettably the belgian abbey style). Their Moon Man, Two Women, Fat Squirrel, Coffee Stout -all great. Even the Cherry beer was palatable. What a happy place that is. kind of like a Field of Dreams for beer.
Trip to Great Dane Pub to plot treason against the corrupt govt was equally great. I sampled from our table, and liked all the [expletive]. the Stone Scone Scotch Ale is one fine beer -probably liked it the most up there.
Then the cheeseheads pointed me in direction of the great Ambergeddon and soon I was backslapping with the locals over the last minute victory of the packers in preseason.
I splurged and bought some WI beer for home, but am regretting evangalizing the beer, gave too much of it away to friends, who I could have gave bud select to instead.

Re: The Beer Thread
There is a new local brewery that has a beer called Brown EyePA. Do you want to drink that?

But a couple of friends of mine convinced me to really give IPA's a chance. It's taking time and it's tough work, but I'm starting to get there.

Re: The Beer Thread
Would you not try it because it's a porter, or because of the donut/bacon/maple thing?
I used to love IPA's but I've gotten seriously burnt out on them and my beer preferences have adapted. I still respect the style but I have a much stronger preference for darker styles now.

I like porters. IPA's I'm just starting to get a taste for, but they really are a once a week type beer for me.JL21 wrote:Would you not try it because it's a porter, or because of the donut/bacon/maple thing?

Don't be fooled by the over the top titling - that is just the way they do it at Rogue. such as hazlenut brown nectar, or Juniper Pale Ale

Re: The Beer Thread
The thing that might catch me is that it's not just an over the top title. There's an actual product they're trying to mimic. The Voodoo Doughnut company in (I believe) Portland has a bacon maple doughnut. The maple part of the equation is a slam dunk. The bacon and doughnut parts are a stretch. And I could live with one or the other but somehow both (in conjunction with the maple thing) seems like they're aiming to do too much in a beer.Freed Roger wrote:Yes- in a heartbeat.

Having said that, I guarantee I'd try it.

I will try it if you try it and say I should try it.JL21 wrote:The thing that might catch me is that it's not just an over the top title. There's an actual product they're trying to mimic.
