Legend, garbage, garbage, garbage, very good, garbage, garbage, garbage, washed up good finding some last life, garbage, legend, washed up, nice supporting cast member, washed up, and good up and comer. You left out a few notables like Andrew Bogut, Luis Scola, Andrea Bargnani and Manu Ginobili.

Now you think that vastly outnumbers white Americans like Kevin Love, David Lee, Kirk Hinrich, Steve Blake, Tyler Hansborough, Troy Murphy, Josh McRoberts, Kyle Korver, Nick Collison, Matt Bonner, Chris Kaman, Mike Dunleavy, Chase Budinger, Brad Miller, Aaron Gray, Mike Miller and of course those about to join us like THE JIMMER and I'm sure more I've left out. That is a lineup of mostly bums to be sure, but the numbers are comprable.

So essentially what I'm saying is that a) white basketball is bad, b) white america is having a bad run of top-end talent but has some really nice players, c) the foreign whiteys have been propped up by Nowitski who is a legend and Nash who is also a hall of famer and though they've had a nice run, I don't think this is some gulf that will continue to widen. We may never see another Bird or Walton in his prime, but Kevin Love can do a good McHale impression.

Hooray, you've noticed that a larger ratio of skilled black young athletes pursue it as a career vs skilled young white athletes. There's lots of books about race relations in America, cultural, societal, and economical differences between ethnic cultures, that will shed light on this fascinating disparity.
Yikes man. Luke was asking a totally valid question.

This is kind of fun because, though I played more basketball than anything else and was pretty good at one time, I'm sort of just getting back into paying attention to the NBA thanks to you guys and Bill Simmons.

BY THE WAY

I feel it is totally valid for white america to take partial ownership of Blake Griffin, Steph Curry, Shane Battier, Deron Williams, Jason Kidd, Kris Humphries etc. and that should put us more than over the top on Europe/South America.

and that is a very fair argument to make but for whatever cultural and historical reasons this country identifies mixed race people by their non white ethnicity.

Also the fact that we can assume they are basketball hellions mostly because of one set of parental genes and probably not the other. I really doubt Blake's mom had a 40 inch vertical.

There is that as well though I'm trying to remember which of those biracial athletes' mother was a top notch volleyball player.

Anyway, I wonder if the European system really lends itself to readying a kid for play in the NBA. The system as well as the style of play.
Also of note, the US males are now the 9th or so tallest men in the world.

And for the record, I am a simple minded racist.

In the highest level of developmental leagues in Europe, they're essentially totally white, which means white players get the most practice, the best teaching and the best opportunities. In the highest level of developmental leagues in America (AAU, big city public leagues and high-dollar private academies), most players are black who get the most practice, the best teaching and the best opportunities. Ironically, the lack of the best social opportunities leads to the best basketball opportunities. #youjustgotgladwell'd
